    Extractions: Quando si pensa alla Milano del XVIII secolo (ossia la cosiddetta "età teresiana e giuseppina"), subito la mente corre alla fondamentale esperienza dell'"Accademia dei Pugni", nell'ambito della quale Cesare Beccaria, i fratelli Pietro e Alessandro Verri e i loro amici produssero autentici capolavori del pensiero illuminista, quali il periodico "Il Caffè" e quel Dei delitti e delle pene destinato a influenzare tutta la successiva riflessione sul diritto. Raramente ci si sofferma a pensare che, proprio in quegli anni, il capoluogo lombardo viveva anche una delle sue stagioni artistiche e musicali più intense, destinata, fra l'altro, a culminare nel 1778 con l'inaugurazione del Teatro alla Scala. La figura centrale della vita musicale milanese di quel periodo fu, per circa cinquant'anni, Giovanni Battista Sammartini (1700/01?-1775), che visse ed esercitò la sua arte sempre a Milano, sebbene le sue opere fossero eseguite e studiate in tutta Europa. Tutti di rilevante particolarità i brani in programma. Il Laudate Pueri di Giovanni Battista Sammartini , probabilmente databile intorno al 1760, è proposto in prima moderna assoluta. Maggior compositore milanese del XVIII secolo, Sammartini è un esempio chiave del passaggio dallo stile tardo-barocco al primo classicismo. Il brano, per soprano e orchestra, è una delle poche composizioni di musica sacra di Sammartini a non essere andata perduta. Il manoscritto è conservato nella Biblioteca Estense di Modena. La revisione è curata dalla Fondazione Arcadia. Il Laudate Pueri di Johann Christian Bach Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . In particolare, il mottetto Exultate, jubilate fu scritto per Venanzio Rauzzini, già protagonista delle rappresentazioni milanesi del "Lucio Silla". La prima esecuzione, che porta la data del 17 gennaio 1773 - dieci giorni prima che Mozart compisse 17 anni – avvenne proprio nella chiesa di Sant’Antonio, dove ora verrà eseguito in prima assoluta. Il testo dell’Exultate è liturgicamente appropriato per Natale e la seconda versione, quella salisburghese, fu destinata proprio a questa festività.

    Extractions: The problem of identifying and selecting sources is one of the main obstacles to the use of Internet for study and research. In fact the extreme heterogeneity of the nature of web resources, associated with the absence of dependable resource locator tools, creates increasing difficulties for the musicologist in finding sources that are capable of meeting his specific information requirements. The article analyses the problems connected with searching on Internet, examines the principal typologies of tools for finding information and assesses their applicability to musicology. Finally, the possibility is investigated of adapting traditional methodologies to the use of telematic tools. This last-mentioned point will be developed with particular attention to assessment criteria.

An organist and choirmaster in his native Milan, he began as a church composer but later produced a great quantity of instrumental music, including 70 symphonies and more than 200 ensemble sonatas. Sammartini's major contribution was the extensive development of thematic material in symphonic form. He was also significant as the teacher of the Austrian composer Christoph Willibald Gluck and as a model for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the German composer Johann Christian Bach, and according to some scholars, for the Austrian Joseph Haydn.
