SASAKI, Naomi MSJ ONGAKUGAKU Vol. 44 SASAKI Naomi An Attempt for the ChronologicalStudy on Cantatas of antonio cesti SASAKI, Naomi. In pursuit http://wwwsoc.nii.ac.jp/msj4/bulletin/v44/sasaki-e.html
Extractions: In pursuit of chronological study on Antonio Cesti's cantatas an approximate dates of some of his 55 cantatas can be suggested by documental evidences. Burrows mentioned 5 remarkable points for chronology in 1961. This study presents 7 approaches : 1. date of manuscripts, 2. 5 different written forms of Cesti's name found in manuscripts, 3. attribution of texts, 4. concrete references in texts, 5. style analysis between his operas and cantatas based on completion year of the opera, 6. style analysis between Cesti's cantatas and the cantatas of his earlier or later contemporaries, 7. his international activities and cantata-composing environment. While the documental evidences 2, 3 and 4 were found in 23 works, the rest had no clues to their background. Therefore, this study made a preliminary attempt for stylistic study 5 and 6.

In this work he included an instrument called , which was intended to emit colored lights corresponding to each of the keys. At the top of the score, the part for this instrument ( luce part) is given in two voices in all but four of the total 606 measures, where it appears in three voices. In this paper, the voice written in the shorter note value is designated rapid part (R), and the voice in the longer note value slow part (S).

Reprint of the Graz edition 1959 ff. Originally published as 83 volumes in 79 bindings. The "Monuments of Music in Austria" represents an abundance of all types of musical compositions spanning five centuries composed by Austrians and those foreigners who either performed in Vienna or composed for performances at the Imperial Court. The project was founded by Guido Adler who had the cooperation of such men as Brahms, Richter, and Hanslick and subsequently the editorial contributions of such scholars as Habert, Rietsch, Bezecny, JohannesWolf, A. Einstein, Paul Nettl, Paul Pisk, W. Schmieder, Hans Gal, R. Haas, Manclyczewski, K. Geiringer, among others. One may also cite the editorial contributions of Anton von Webern (see vol. 32). The DTÖ remained out of print for a long time until 1959 when its reprinting was undertaken to satisfy a critical need. The series is by common consensus one of the richest musical anthologies of all time and is often cited as a source of music for study throughout a broad cross-section of the many disciplines within the field of music. This low-cost microfiche edition of the DTÖ should benefit those who have not been able to purchase the, more expensive book edition.

Extractions: Born in 1921, the Norwegian composer and singer Arne Dørumsgaard settled in Paris, where in 1963 he began to publish his Canzone Scordate, an anthology of European song from 1400 to 1900. The first book of volume I contains Ten Early Spanish Songs (1450-1550) with his own piano accompaniments in a characteristic style, inflected with Iberian modes and rhythms. The set was first recorded by Gerard Souzay and Dalton Baldwin. The songs come from the era of the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, whose wedding in 1469 ushered in an age of prosperity and stability (including most notably the voyages of Columbus and the Spanish Inquisition). The composition and performance of sacred music reached a high level at Court, but a truly national style was established rather in large collections of secular song (canción), the romance and villancico. The texts of these songs may be amatory or elegiac, historical or religious, connected with dancing or with the festivals of the church year. The music was performed to the accompaniment of the vihuela (ancestor of the guitar).
