Adams comes to U of L from the ranks of professional softball, where she was a starting catcher and outfielder for the Carolina Diamonds for three seasons in the Women's Professional Softball League (WPSL). She was a teammate of U of L pitching coach Karen Jackson. Besides her playing experience, Adams has coached at both the high school and collegiate levels. "One of the many great things about Leslie is her versatility," said head coach Sandy Pearsall. "She can play and coach virtually every position but pitcher. Our players benefit from her excellent teaching skills." She was an assistant coach at Florida State for two years where she maintained pitching and hitting charts and assisted with practice. From there she joined Pearsall's staff at Miami University in Ohio where she was an assistant from 1995-96. There she recruited, planned practices and assisted with camps and clinics. In 1996, Adams entered the high school ranks as head coach at Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC where she also coached volleyball. She entered private business in 1997 when she joined the Carolina Diamonds.

I was working at Flanner And Buchanan Mortuaries in Indianapolis at the time, and was always volunteering to take the road trips because I was the only non married licensed funeral director at that time, plus I always enjoyed seeing different parts of the country. One of the perks that I had with the company, was that my meals were paid for by my employer while traveling. Upon hitting the Indiana state line, I was getting pretty hungry and started to look for a good restaurant in which to eat. When I passed the Henryville exit, I noticed a little red car speeding up behind me. Looking back in my side mirror, I thought maybe I had cut them off, as the red car was traveling at a high rate of speed. When the red car was beside me it had slowed down so we were even. I looked over and saw a girl starring at me with a great big smile on her face. She had long hair and the prettiest smile. A couple of times I slowed down and then she would slow down; I would speed up and then she would speed up. By that time I was wondering what she was doing. Then it came to me that she was checking me out! Maybe she was curious or maybe she had just never seen a cute guy driving a funeral hearse before. I was thinking to myself, "This is great! No girl has ever even looked my way driving a funeral hearse before".

Grace Lee Mims on WCLV , 95.5 FM, from 10:00 to 11:00 P.M . The all-Adams program will include selections from his latest recording22 art songs featuring tenor Darryl Taylor on the Albany Records CD Love Rejoices: Songs of H. Leslie Adams. Two of Adams's compositions, "Sence You Went Away" and "The Return from Town," were performed as part of the Young Artists of Cleveland Lyric Opera in Concert Wednesday, June 6, under the baton of Jonathon Field at Spaces Art Gallery. In the June 2001 issue of Ebony, Adams's songs were cited in an article focusing on the 10all-time best songs by black composers as chosen by leading music historians. Samuel A. Floyd, Jr., directorof Chicago's Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College, listed Adams's "For You There Is No Song," as number one. Uzee Brown, chair of the music department at Morehouse College , listed Adams's "Sence You Went Away" as number 3.
