Book Description
Calendars in the Dead Sea Scrolls explores the evidence about the different uses of time-measurement in the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Hebrew Bible and other ancient Jewish texts. James C. VanderKam examines the pertinent texts, their sources and the different uses to which people put calendrical information in the Christian world. He argues that the scrolls indicate that a dispute about the correct calendar for dating festivals was one of the principal reasons for the separation of the authors of the scrolls from Jewish society. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars what a great tool!
this book has been of utmost help to me, since I've been working on my degree essay, which concerns the symbol of the bee in the poetry of Pindar, Theocritus and Callimachus.
The information in this book is very very wide as far as time and peoples are concerned.
the perfect tool for a philologist or an anthropologist (even an archaeologist) who is doing research in the relative field. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great work, that brings Wolfgang back to us
A quite detailed and very well written work. I can give practically no critics, you don't need to know anything about Mozart to read this book, becaue it is very informative. I don't recommend it to unpatient fellows though, for they would soon get bored. Really brings Wolfgang Mozart back to life...

4-0 out of 5 stars Many thanks are due to my music teacher
She suggested I read this book (she knew I afored reading WAY more than piano lessons) and I was particularly not a Mozart fan.Although it doesn't say it in the book, I'm convinced he had 16 fingers on 1 hand and 12 on the other to make the chords he did.Still not a fan of playing anything Mozart, but a total fan of this book. The characters lept from the page and the historical setting helped me grasp what was happening at the time.I highly recommend it while litening to a little Ein Klein Nightmusik

5-0 out of 5 stars the indepth look at the private life of W.A. Mozart
This book tops any account of Mozart's life. It is more of a historical novel than a simple time-line of the events.

5-0 out of 5 stars More in-depth story of Mozart's life than Amadeus.
Focuses more on the early life of Mozart. His early concepts of ALL sounds as music, and the joy of hearing that vast pallette of sounds he later used in his music. His inner thoughts and dreams about music develop as he gets older. His love of his family and his love ofmusic at odds with each other, pulling him first one way then another, but music always his overpowering first love, ultimately leading to his premature death. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Time to Celebrate
Invaluable guide to the turning year from the grandmother of womens' spirituality in the U.S. Includes several holidays from ancient traditions for every month of the year, and offers beautiful rituals that honor the earth. Simple rites that anyone can do alone or with friends. I've used mine so much it's falling apart, finding inspiration in the coldest winter, in the hottest summer, plus lots of little-known facts about the origin of holidays.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book.....
It is not a book that you have to read cover to cover in that order but a seasonal book that gives you ideas to incorporate into your own personal practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Grandmother of Time
I have studied the wiccan path for a number of years on my own but only recently have been fortunate to have the guidance of an excellent teacher who recommended this book. I have enjoyed what this book has added to my teachings and to my everyday activities.

3-0 out of 5 stars The grandmother of time
A very special book, that gives ideas for feasts and holidays through the year. Every month begins with a Goddess who tells the story of that month, and then the days of the month follow with feast for all kinds of Goddesses. The nice part of this book is that there are so many different feasts and Goddesses, everyone can find a Goddess of her liking here.
The only thing that I can say against this book is that sometimes the historical information is not correct, due to Budapest's overwhelming feminism, that gets a bit irritating after a while.

5-0 out of 5 stars Z Budapest is a legend
Z Budapest is the founding mother of the women's spirituality movement. Her Dianic craft is a lovely religious tradition which teachesus harmony with nature and human beings. Her book became an instant classic. Please treat yourself to this work. ... Read more

Without a specific religion to provide structure and offer guidance, it is difficult to create a spiritual discipline much less practice one. Even those who go to church and synagogue appreciate suggestions as to how they can help their spirituality overlap with their everyday existence. Responding to this longing, Elizabeth Neeld offers a primer--packed with ideas and inspirational recommendations for creating stillness and soul-tending devotion in daily living. Although the intention is not a new one--plenty of authors have cashed in on the "everyday sacred" premise--Neeld's suggestions are original and eloquent, and reflect years of research rather than a whimsical, hot-selling idea. Chapters include "Encouraging a Spiritual Attitude," "Experiencing the Sacred," "Praying with Words," and "Surviving the Windstorms." At the end of each chapter, Neeld suggests specific tasks for helping the human more easily meet the divine. --Gail Hudson ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone deserves the fruits of this read!
My husband and I were introduced to A Sacred Primer through a retreat given by Elizabeth Harper Neeld at the Cenacle in Houston Texas. The book comes alive in a very special way when this grounded, gracefilled womanshares herpersonal experiences of her spiritual practice as well as theexperiences of historical and contemporary believers in The Divine.Myhusband and I are following the example of another couple who are readingthe book together in an "allowable" mode.We expect to besurprised as together we read, reflect, and receive. We look forward withanticipation to other works (and retreats)from this gifted scholar.
