4-0 out of 5 stars Radiology review
As other secret series texts compliment their core topics so does this one. It's always fun to extract the secret series pearls not found in other clinical textbooks.Explanations of roentgenographic pathology is thorough. However, as a correctional nurse practitioner I read many x-ray films but never the more advanced imaging modalities.I would like to see more standard x-ray films in the next edition.

I'm pretty sure that the second edition has not yet been published, and that these are reviews for the first edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars To the point
After slogging my way through huge radiology tomes, this book is a lifesaver. The chapters are focused and had just what I needed.Maybe, in the next edition, they will add something to do with radiology and computers.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best book of its kind
I am a practicing radiologist in New York City, and work with residents and medical students all the time. This is a fantasticbook, not only for someone just being exposed to Radiology or needing an initial primer, but as a review book.I can say this with confidence because the book is useful to me in my practice. Other than the specialty books for the Radiology Boards, this is an excellent resource.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hmm...disappointing

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good introductory book but not enough...
This is a good introductory book, but it doesn't explain much of the pathological aspects of radiology. It's mostly for delving you into the basics of radiology. It doesn't analyze each disease entity with the accompanying radiological signs...

4-0 out of 5 stars WELL-WRITTEN AND BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED
This well-written and beautifully illustrated textbook was designed for medical students. It is comprehensive: with each chapter sectioned into technical, anatomical and pathological sub-headings.
"Clinical Radiology: The Essentials" embraced all aspects of diagnostic and interventional imaging techniques currently in use. It is a general mini-reference text whose aim is to provide students with all the tutorials that they may need during revision.
Still, experienced radiologists would appreciate its concise outlook, which makes it an ideal memory-refreshing tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Radiology!
I truly recommend this book to every medical student, specially to those doing a rotation in Radiology. The book is marvelously illustrated with hundreds of big and clear photos of every diagnostic imaging modality currently used, showing the most important technical, anatomic and radiologic considerations one must have when ordering and evaluating an imaging study. The book is very clearly written, goes to the point and takes into account almost every clinical situation one is likely to encounter in practice. I could even say it's enjoyable.

3-0 out of 5 stars read a while and say goodnight
Radiology is enriched by this summarizing book in a more or less satisfying manner. In my opinion, the author has found an average compromise between textbook and atlas of radiological pathology. Although you will find many good figures of typical laesions, it may happen that you have to search for them for a little while, because this book is lacking a conceice content of figures. If one was a bloody beginner in radiology, a more detailed description of normal findings would have been helpful. Nevertheless, if you are interested in reading and looking a couple of time when nothing else is to do that night, you can never be wrong with that book. Moreover, the price is fair in comparison to similar books even appeared at LWW. ... Read more

Book Description

This book is a comprehensive reference and practical guide on the technology and application of ultrasound to the musculoskeletal system. It is organized into two main sections. The first is devoted to general aspects, while the second provides a systematic overview of the applications of musculoskeletal ultrasound in different areas of the body. Each chapter of the second section provides an introduction on clinical anatomy and the essentials of clinical history and physical examination. Thereafter, performance of the ultrasound study is explained and the normal and pathological anatomy is reviewed. To assist in understanding, the ultrasound scans are correlated with drawings, photographs, images obtained using other modalities, and anatomic specimens. There is a generous complement of high-quality illustrations based on high-end equipment. This book contains a wealth of invaluable information.

2-0 out of 5 stars Resident Review
This text has been required reading for the radiology program I attend, however, I must admit that many senior residents strongly advise incoming residents to return it for a refund as residents cannot afford a textbook that is low-yield.I have read several chapters and find it not very helpful.I feel that your money and time is better spent reading a standard introductory diagnostic radiology text (not Squire's as this is more suited for medical students) such as Helms Diagnostic Radiology or the MGH Primer or better yet, saving your money for the costly registration fees for your boards.Trust me on this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible in emergency radiology
Now in its third printing, Dr. Harris' monumental tome continues to set the standard. Along with the excellent text in well-written prose, Dr. Harris has strenghthened the book with the contributions from several experts in Emergency Radiology. They have supplied discussions on modern modalities including CT, US, MRI and Angiography. The book, however, retains its strenghth in the emphasis on mechanisms of injury, the subtleties available in plain radiography and the total approach to trauma with clinically-oriented imaging protocols. No ER should be without this superb text ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for clinicians. Too limited for radiology people..

5-0 out of 5 stars great choice for radiology rotations
"Great new student book of Radiology - all you need to know and fun to read on top of it all.

I used this textbook during my radiology rotation. It gives you a
comprehensive understanding of radiology. If you ever felt lost and helpless in the face of a complicated radiograph you will enjoy this book. Ittells you the basics of image analysis, the specifics for frequent and relevant clinical settings and some fun facts on top of that - the "rugger jersey spine" of osteomalacia, for example.
The phrasing of the book makes makes a real difference: This is no dead serious textbook to take you to sleep. Following a group of interns through their radiology rotation keeps the level of concentration high when other texts get boring. That is a real plus when learning in the evening after a long day in the hospital. The illustrations are of high quality. The price is right.

To sum it up: This book is a solid introduction to radiology and a great choice for radiology rotations." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete
This book has all the information you need on this field. And the pictures are great.
Great book.

4-0 out of 5 stars too damn long
This book strays a lot on main pertinent findings and tends to ramble. There is TOOOOOOOO much information at times. The next edition is suppose to be cleaned up quite a bit.Otherwise its a decent book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sí, pero No. Le falta bastante....

1-0 out of 5 stars was not in a good condition
The book is great but though I was charged for the shipping and handling , still I recieved the book in a bad shape and I did not complain because my last purchase was the same and I/my account/reputation with the custmer servicewould have looked bad.
But generally the book is great and I recommend it for every body but try to ship it to the US address and let somebody bring it to you as it will save you money and you will have an undamaged book which you could sell it in the future

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book, and cheap too!

"Whew! It is never over. This book has been a pustule on our rear for so long. I will never write a third edition - you can bet the estate on it. So yes, David, you can be the first author of the third edition. ...."

So begins the introduction by Robert Grossman to this second edition of "Neuroradiology: The Requisites".

It is a bit strange to see so many bad jokes and bad poems and such blunt Asperger syndrome-type language in what should be a dry and scholarly textbook for serious professionals, but at least the book is never boring. RIG and DMY manage to skewer surgeons, lawyers, HMOs, FMGs, other radiologists, their wives, each other, and most of all, Bill and Hilary Clinton, while educating us all about the essence of Neuroradiology. Strangely enough, the words "George Bush" are completely absent from this book - one wonders because the authors work hard to be equal opportunity jokesters, and DMY states in the book that he is a liberal Democrat. But then, remember that this book was finished right around the time that the War in Iraq Part Deux was getting started, a time when people were getting death threats just for even wondering out loud - "Gee what if Saddam doesn't have any WMDs?" I do get a distinct feeling that both these guys were probably in favor of regime change in Iraq in any case.

(For all you young, liberal Democrat, whippersnapper Radiology residents out there, basking in your multiple job offers, let me explain that Bill and Hilary will forever live in a very hot and dark place in the memories of older Radiologists for creating the last big Down cycle in our field, the Great Job Depression of 1994-1998. In one of his first major policy speeches on health care reform, Bill Clinton singled out the MRI scanner as a prime example of how expensive and wasteful healthcare in the US had become. Subsequently, the volume of MRI scans nationwide shot downward, MR centers closed right and left, and radiology jobs disappeared. In the fall of 1995, there were only four full time radiology job openings in the entire state of California advertised in the ACR Professional Bureau.............Never Forget! Never Forgive!)

This book is more than enough for the Radiology resident studying to take the Radiology Boards. That's what it was designed for.It is also a great book for the old farts in private practice to review and get updated on the latest stuff.

Being an old fart in private practice, I read this book to study for the Maintenance of Certificate (MOC) exam for the Neuroradiology CAQ. I passed, but I'm pretty sure they graded on a curve, because that was one heck of a hard test, way harder than the original Neuro CAQ. Good thing I also scanned through Ann Osborne's "Diagnostic Imaging: Brain"; plus I paged through Som and Curtin's two volume "Head and Neck Imaging" book on CD. Both texts were also useful for the MOC.

Ah, what the heck, they probably passed everybody .......don't let me scare you, go ahead and take the MOC....

The only criticism that I have for this book is that a few of the illustrations are just awful, really poor transfers from the original. The authors do acknowledge this problem in the introduction. Plus, for some interesting entities there are no images, whereas for some relatively common things (at least in private practice, possibly these are extremely rare in academia?) like synovial cysts of the lumbar spine, there are, what, some FIFTEEN images?! Like, I have NEVER seen a synovial cyst before, please show me more examples!

But then again, there were a series of questions about synovial cysts of the lumbar spine on the MOC exam. So, kudos, for a job well done!

Book Description
This book is written as a system-based clinical-radiological review providing images from the latest available imaging modalities and covers all major diseases that are encountered in everyday clinical practice. A problem-orientated approach is used. Every chapter contains a collection of clinical cases, each with a short clinical description and initial imaging followed by pertinent questions regarding the imaging findings (colour coded in red outline). 4-0 out of 5 stars Radiologic Physics
This thin book is packed with high yield information and plenty of questions. This is a good adjunct to physics lectures and the recalls; written by one of the authorities in the field.Huda contains less math, numbers, and questions in comparison to this book. You have to get the information somehow and this is one way to do it.I would not recommend using this text alone without another source of education, it is a review book with prepatory questions for the Physics boards.

4-0 out of 5 stars Adequate book as an outline for board preparation
The simplistic presentation in a bullet format is presented in this book in a clear concise format.Augmented with a CD ROM containing Power Point Slides of key concepts this book is useful to get the BASIC framework for learning. Some areas where it is not as good are Mammography, MRI and Fluoroscopy. The questions are challenging and useful but not to the level of difficulty of the ABR's Physics examination. The Powerpoint slides are limited since there is no cross reference to them in the textbook.

How would I recommend using this book?As a first year, I would recommend reading the book cover to cover. Then add to that by using Huda and Bushberg to solidify your knowledge base. The pace of the book realistically speaking takes about 1-1.5 hours to read the chapter and answer the questions without looking back.It takes about 2 weeks to cover the material (in case you are trying to pace yourself).

Overall, it is a worthwhile read and is more clear than Huda. However, I felt it was complementary to Huda and not an all inclusive source for material to pass. ... Read more
