Great book super pictures
I got the book for my toddler so she could see more pictures of snakes. It also has great info about them and is easy to read even for younger children. She enjoys hearing all about them as she's looking at the pictures. Snakes aren't evil, gross, slimy or mean they are a very necessary part of our planet. If it weren't for snakes we'd be overrun by rats and mice. This book shows that snakes have a very important part to play on our planet and should get some respect for the jobs they do to keep things in balance.

Out of date, 'strange' classification of snakes and poor photos.
I am guessing that this book is just old, so not going along with todays knowledge, and this is just another edition. One definitely can find some information in it, but I did not like it. Another positive is its visually attractive issue.

Great book for a new snake owner, great overall coverage.
This is great for a beggining pet owner.It has over 100 color photos of different types of snakes and also pictures and diagrams of afflictions.It covers everything from history, nomenclature, care and breeding. Thereis even a guide to help you determine what type of snake (proper name andorigin) you have.Since this is a book on both boas and pythons, itdoesn't spend much time or detail on either.Perhaps it's only shortcomingwas that there is not much, if anything about IBD (Inclusion BodyDisorder)that I have found in other books.Also, there was very littletime spent on treating any of the diseases, except how to recognise them,and generally how they are treated.Otherwise, this is a great referencebook and good reading for those that wish to know more about boas andpythons. ... Wonderful Informaiton regarding Snakes
My daughter initially checked this book out of her school library, and she enjoyed the story so much I decided to purchase the book.An absolutely fun story!!

For Children from Two to Ninety-Two
Once a week I volunteer to read books with children at the local library. VERDI by Janell Cannon is one of the most popular choices (Ms. Cannon's Stellaluna is also highly popular). It seems that children of all ages enjoy this book about a little yellow snake who doesn't want to grow up and become a boring green adult. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a great coming of age story. We always discuss the books after reading them and after reading "Verdi," the kids always say something like "even adults were young once" or that "you can still have fun when you're a grown up." I also must comment on the illustrations, as they are exquisite - so colorful and detailed. Everyone just loves looking through this book again and again.

Bottom line: Fans of "Stellaluna" will love this work more so for Cannon's stunning vignettes, the story taking a bit of a backseat.Nonetheless, it is a frivolous and fun tale while being educational at the same time and Cannon's gorgeous depictions of wildlife will transport you to another world.

A DELIGHT TO THE EYE, GREAT STORY AND KIDS LOVE IT.
This is a wonderfully written story of a young python, a young yellow python, who does not want to grow old a boring like the adult green pythons he see around him.The art work in this slender book is absolutely breath taking.The artist has blended his colors perfectly and created life like studies of these wonderful snakes but not life like situations as far as the snake world goes.This is the charm of the story.Few, if any, want to actually grow older and kids in particular do not want to do and act as "boring" adults.This tale lets the child know that we all can keep our child like wonder and love of fun into our adult years.I read this one to the second and third graders and they catch the meaning of the story quite well with a bit of prompting.They love the pictures, in particular the ones where the author has made the snakes rather hard to spot.I also not that this is one of the more popular books chosen by the children when they have their "read alone time."An endorsement of a children by children is as about as good as it gets.I must say though, adults will enjoy reading this with the children also which I feel is important as kids can sort of sense when your heart is not really in the reading.Recommend this one highly. Good Translation
This is a very nice translation of an Eric Carle book into Spanish.The Spanish words have been added to the pages which turns this into a dual language book.I have problems with some of the other commercial translations of kids books such as "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" which is translated as "oso pardo" rather than "oso cafe"."Cafe" seems to be the more often used word for brown in this area of the country.The Greedy Python book itself is rather wordy for very young children.I would not really recommend it until 4 or perhaps 5 years of age.

The Python Is a Gem
The Python is an intelligent, well-plotted book about a guy in Berkeley who reverts from being a chef to an investigator, finding out he has a lot more to deal with than he imagined. It is far better than the normal page-turner thriller. It is subtle in its characterizations, but moves along well, and it has a surprising and terrific ending. There is plenty about dealing with a big snake, but there are lots of vivid characters, some with quirks and some that are just plain horrifically evil. They are all put together in a narrative that is fun and suspenseful, serious and cynical. There are lots of great things about this book, and nothing mediocre.
