At Alsbäck and Släggö the measurements on temperature and salinity started in the beginning of the last century, the frequency at that time was low, though. In the 1970s the frequency increased and more variables was included. The station, BroA , was located outside the fjord during the period 1986-1996. Hydrological data and chlorophyll_a are stored in the database "Shark" at SMHI (Swedish Metrology and Hydrology Institute). The biological data are stored in the database BIOMAD and can be found at: http://www.ecology.su.se/databases/biomad/lajos River discharge from the Örekil river is given as monthly mean, and can be obtained from SMHI. Concentration of nutrients and other parameters in the river can be found at http://www.slu.se/index.html

Included is the complete and unedited raw footage of more than 100 colloquia presentations and 45 oral history interviews. Printed material accompanying the collection consists of an overview booklet with essays from representatives of the sponsoring organizations, programs for each of the colloquia, and a paper presented at the University of Washington regional colloquia by Oregon State University President Emeritus John V. Byrne on the development of oceanographic studies at OSU. The oral history tapes include interviews with OSU oceanographers John V. Byrne and Larry Small. OSU faculty member Ron Doel served as one of the oral history interviewers.

Extractions: Long-term Variability in Diatom and Dinoflagellate Community Structure of La Jolla Bight Interannual and interdecadal climatic variations strongly affect the structure and function of marine ecosystems. Long-term studies of the California Current system in the northeast Pacific have shown that climate-ocean variations of the past 50+ years have disturbed and changed the marine ecosystems off the West Coast of North America. However, in the context of climate-ocean change we know nothing about how phytoplankton, an extremely important component of the food web, are affected. To help fill this gap we propose to build an 8-year time series (1992-2000) to study variability in the biodiversity and abundance of diatoms and thecate dinoflagellates from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO; 32 deg 50' N, 117 deg 10' W) pier in La Jolla Bight (California). Dr. Lehmann earned his Ph.D. in geology at the Univ. of Rochester. He has master degrees in both geology and technical writing from Miami University and completed undergraduate studies in geology and writing at Juniata College. When not in the classroom, lab, or field, Dr. Lehmann can often be found fishing for bass, trout, or musky at many of the fine local lakes and streams. His wife, Carolyn, is also a Juniata alum, and he and his family enjoy attending Juniata sporting events. The design of the course is inquiry-based being grounded in the question "How do I come to know the natural and constructed world, and what is my place in it?" This was to the Met office Archive at Bracknell. A separate report is elsewhere. I was rather disappointed by the numbers. In addition to Committee members there were only five other people. I do so hope that this isn't a sign of things to come. How many of YOU are considering a visit to Cambridge in March? Our Secretary has put much time and effort into this trip. Not only will it be the AGM, but also should be an interesting pilgrimage for those interested in the history of some fairly important meteorologists. I am hoping that our Summer Meeting will be at the RAF Museum Hendon. This will be very expensive as it costs in excess of £200 to hire a meeting room. This will be a large drain on our expenses, especially if only a few people make the effort to visit north London.

Extractions: The Royal Meteorological Society President: Dr H Cattle Click here for a shortened version of the Group's 1/2001 newsletter. The History Group was formed in 1983 and now has 90 members. Anyone interested in the history of meteorology and /or physical oceanography, amateur or professional, is very welcome to join. It is a very active group, run by a committee of 12, including a representative of the Challenger Society for Marine Science (Dr Margaret Deacon). Three meetings are held each year - the AGM in March, a summer meeting/visit, and an autumn one in October. Usually, these are held on Wednesdays or Saturdays, at appropriate venues for the meeting theme, and the Group has occasionally joined in organizing Society meetings. For the Group's summer meeting, a visit is made to a place of interest not only to the Group's members but also to their spouses. Recent venues include Kew Gardens (with meteorological observations in the London area the theme), the Museum of Army Aviation, Middle Wallop, and the RAF Museum, Hendon, for meteorology in the services, and the Old Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Some Group meetings are held jointly with other organizations. In 2000, the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Society in nearly its present form was commemorated at the Royal Society, with the cooperation of the Royal Astronomical Society and others. The Group is currently encouraging joint meetings with other specialist Groups of the Society.
