Book Description
Here's a trail-blazing resource that details microchip fabrication using bottom-up DNA self-assembly. This unique book provides a theoretical and practical bridge from today's chip technology to the molecular-scale circuitries that lie ahead. It connects familiar semiconductor concepts to the latest breakthroughs in the use of DNA as construction material, and maps out a detailed method for developing DNA self-assembled computer systems that features case study designs of lightweight self-organizing computer architectures.

Probing both the science and the engineering involved, this one-of-a-kind resource reviews current microchip fabrication methods and architectures and discusses fundamentals of nanoscale design and DNA self-assembly. The book addresses self-assembled circuitry and design issues in depth, explaining DNA scaffolding structures and providing techniques for organizing molecular-scale materials, circuits and architectures. This cutting-edge volume explores current technology limitations involving small scale control and large scale randomness, along with architectural challenges to node design, routing, and interfacing to the microscale. You also find case studies of a nanoscale active network architecture and a self-organizing SIMD architecture that give you a clear look at self-assembled system design pointing the way forward. Concluding with a digest of current practices in DNA nanostructure synthesis and insights into the revolutionary design, fabrication, and operational paradigms raised by the concept of "self assembly," this roadmap to DNA microchip synthesis is indispensable for your work in researching and developing nanoscale computer structures, devices, and applications. ... Book Description
On the way towards the Information Society, global networks such as the Internet, together with mobile computing, have made wide-area computing over virtual communities a reality. Digital city projects, with the goal of building platforms to support community networking, are going on worldwide.
This is the first book devoted to digital cities. It is based on an international symposium held in Kyoto, Japan, in September 1999. The 34 revised full papers presented were carefully selected for inclusion in the book; they reflect the state of the art in this exciting new field of interdisciplinary research and development. The book is divided into parts on design and analysis, digital city experiments, community network experiments, applications, visualization technologies, mobile technologies, and social interaction and communityware. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars esoteric specialty
i gave this 1 4 stars mainly because i was just happy to find a book that specificlly deals with this slightly esoteric subject. although i think its OVER PRICED, i am still very happy with this purchase, it is a good resource for digital city projects, out lining the major goals, problems, achievments :) and gives clues for future trends. the pros; includes hard to find & usefull info on real projects (not the usual theoretical bla bla). intersting accounts from various points of view on this topic (some read like a press relaese/ marketing breif, some like an academic report) the cons: low productoin value (for the price) the paper is cheap, annoying typos -some one forgot to proof read,un -even quality-some of the projects presented arnt related to the subject closely enough, lack of editing focus or statement, and most projects are from 1999 n before

bottom line- if ur intu this topic, buy this book, ull b happy to have the info at hand but dont expect anything more than what it says it is- a collectin of lecture notes. some inspiring some dull. :)& thank u....

5-0 out of 5 stars An overview over the main digital cities in the world
This book is of great knowledge regarding the digitalization of people communities. Lots of implemented digital cities are stated and explained throw this book, with japanese precision. Bologna, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Kyoto, Helsinki and so on, are compared with many points-of-view and concentred in one mission - what do the citizen want?

Book Description
The use of surface treatments can not only reduce the cost of expensive components employed in critical applications but also extend the useful lifetime of existing structural elements or increase the load carrying capacity for the same life.In recent years, they have therefore received considerable attention from the engineering and scientific community.

This book contains edited versions of most of the papers presented at the Fifth International Conference on Computer Methods and Experimental Measurements for Surface Treatment Effects. The aim of these meetings is to encourage international co-operation amongst scientists, technologists and engineers and to assist in a better understanding of areas such as fatigue, fracture and wear resistance.

Throughout the volume particular emphasis is given to the application of advanced theories and experimental techniques. The contributions come from internationally acknowledged researchers working in this multidisciplinary field and are divided under the following headings:Changing Material Properties;Corrosion;Damage, Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics;Laser Surface Treatment;Residual Stress Effect;Shot Peening;Surface Coating;and Thermal Processes. ...
