4-0 out of 5 stars A great first reference
I am realtively new to the sport of lacrosse. My son is getting involved and I had volunteered to coach his team of beginners (first and second graders). This book was a great resource to the general rules of the game and techniques. I found the illustrations helpful and the practice games great.

Book Description
Within the past decade, lacrosse has seen explosive growth on the elementary, junior and high school, and college levels, rapidly becoming one of America's most popular playing sports. Lifelong lacrosse player and coach Daniel Morris, along with noted author Michael Morris, distill the essence of this exciting, fast-paced game into one compact volume, teaching everything the beginning and intermediate coach needs to know about the rules, equipment, skills, and drills of this venerable game.

Unlike other books on lacrosse, this guide reflects recent important rule changes, as well as the latest techniques in offense and defense, stick-handling, and advances in equipment that have transformed the game as it is played today. Chapters focus on critical elements of individual and team play, conducting practices, skill-building drills, and a playbook of offensive and defensive strategies. A resource list of suppliers, camps, and additional information is included.

This is a book that will find a place on every coach and player's shelf.

2-0 out of 5 stars there are better books available
This book is a welcome addition to the lack of material on lacrosse, but it doesn't add much depth to the subject and is not very useful as a reference or as a tool for coaches. I would recommend Dave Pietramala's book over this one, hands down.

3-0 out of 5 stars book satisfactory/ box open
Hi,

the book seemed fine, but the box was open and the pages turned back alittle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best coaching book I have seen
I am coaching youth, middle school, and travel lax teams and have very little on-field lacrosse experience. Of the tools I have found, this book is the most straightforward. When I see the most experienced coaches work, they are using the drills in this book. There is still a lack of good books on intermediate lacrosse offensive and defensive strategies, but this handles all the basics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginning coaches
I am very pleased with this book.Great outline of all aspects of the sport.A must have for beginning coaches and/or parents with kids starting to play lacrosse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lacrosse Newbie
Since it is nearly impossible to find anything in "Lacrosse for Adults" for those who are new to the sport and would love to learn to play, I got this book in the hopes of learning the basics. I haven't had a chance to put the new knowledge to the test in either play or instruction, but it was a very valuable tool for the novice player or coach. GO MAMMOTH! GO OUTLAWS! ... Read more

Book Description

Women's lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. As stick technology advances, athleticism increases, and rules and regulations adapt, even the most experienced players and coaches need to keep current on all aspects of the game. Janine Tucker, head women's lacrosse coach at the Johns Hopkins University, and Maryalice Yakutchik, a writer and former lacrosse player, here supply the ultimate guide to women's lacrosse.

Each chapter provides a detailed explanation of a specific skill or technique, illustrated with easy-to-read instructional diagrams and photographs. Coach Tucker begins with lacrosse survival skills -- throwing, catching, cradling, and scooping ground balls -- and then moves on to more advanced techniques, such as precise checking, fast footwork, correct stick and body position, deceptive shooting, and quick dodges. Chapters on cutting-edge offensive and defensive strategy, as well as specialized skills such as goal-tending and the draw, will get any team ready to hit the field.

For young women who want to play at the college level, the concluding chapter on recruiting offers a timeline; testimony from players, parents, and college coaches who have been through the process; and a sample résumé.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hinkson keeps it simple!
If you're a beginner to the game of box lacrosse, this book will get you off on the right foot. Hinkson lays things out in simple format and uses photographs to emphasize his points, plus he tells you how to practice what you learn. Not everyone would agree will Hinkson's approach to the game, but his ideas aren't what one would call controversial either.

Fans of the game will enjoy this one too, as they'll find their ability to follow the game improves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for learning the fundamentals of box lacrosse
Lacrosse players, young and old, would find this book very useful to start playing the game or if players want to hone their skills. The book is very well detailed , from players basic stick skills, individual offense, individual defense, face-offs, to goaltending. Also, for you coaches outthere, I highly recommend buying this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars great for box, indoor or canadian style lacrosse
Jim Hinkson's books (see also Lacrosse Team Strat.) are a valuble resource for the indoor lacrosseplayer coach or fan. While "Fundamentals" covers the individual skills each player will need to successfully play indoor lax, "Team Strat." covers understanding, developing, and coaching indoor lax plays - both offence and defense, man-up or short-handed.This 'team strategy'book may be forwhat the 'fan-only' is looking for a deeper understanding of the game. "Lacrosse Fundamentals" has a wonderful foreward by Chief Irving Powless, Jr. of the Onondaga Nation that describes, in the small space available, the vast importance the game of lacrosse holds for he and his people. Enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars great book for young box lacrosse players and coaches
I have coached teenage box lacrosse teams for 6 years now.I require my players to keep a team file folder into which they are to place and review things like drills, plays, strategy, etc.Several chapters from this book have also been photocopied by me and put in their files. The author has played and coached lacrosse for over 30 years and is recognized as one of the foremost box lacrosse authorities, along with Jim Bishop, his old mentor-coach, in Canada. He also has a second book out now on box lacrosse strategies, which you don't list. A must read for those wanting to know about "the fastest game on two feet"

4-0 out of 5 stars Tips for indoor (box) lacrosse players
A good book for beginning lacrosse players, written by one of the game's top instructors. This book concentrates on the indoor game, also known as box lacrosse or boxla, and focuses on techniques for individuals, rather than team strategy. Using pictures to illustrate his points, Hinkson is especially helpful for young players and adult beginners, (the chapter on indoor goaltending helped me to improve my game in an adult recreational league). Check out Hinkson's other lacrosse titles, including "the fastest game on two feet" which is difficult to find, but deals in depth with team strategy for the indoor game, and his new book, "winning lacrosse strategies," for tips on the field game. ...
