The book also features a chapter dedicated to the rationale behind endosseous implant placement as an alternative to tooth-preserving surgery. A central theme throughout the book is safety, from the principles of providing preoperative information to patients and treating at-risk patients to addressing the possible consequences of intraoperative complications. The appendix provides an extensive list of Internet resources to help the reader stay up-to-date on the latest information on this topic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Implants in Clinical Dentistry
I found this book very well organized, well illustrated and easy to read.It was full of practical advice for the practitioner wishing to place and/or restore implants. It gave unbiased information on how to surgically place and restore single and multiple fixed cases as well as removable implant cases using four different implant sysyems (Nobel Biocare, Astra Tech, Strauman and Frialit) but their advice could easily be applied to other implant systems.
The book was full of useful tables , diagrams and color illustrations.I think it would serve as an excellent reference book for any dentist wanting to embark on or expand their scope of practice in implant dentistry. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Principles Still Apply
Dental implants are hot. They are the trendy things to do and more and more patients are asking for them. Not only that, more and more surgical cases are now handled by general dentists like myself. Even though I consider myself an experienced implant practitioner, I still need to refer to this book every now and then to remind myself of the basic principles to follow. There are neat tables showing the relative risk for various clinical situations and also a trouble-shooting list at the end. The information is by no means exhaustive and different systems may have different ways to overcome the problems, but basics still apply.

Even though the external hex implants featured in the book are all but outdated, this book is still a valuable resource for new as well as experienced implant practitioners doing pre-surgical risk assessment. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Extemporaneous riff
My mother-in-law has false teeth. Full set of choppers. Lost them all before she was 20. In the US.

Just saying.

No one, not even her husband of half a century, has seen her without the teeth in. She gave birth with teeth in!

Just saying. I shouldn't make sport. I don't devote much time to dental hygeine beyond brushing once or twice a day. Floss, feh! I'll end up with store-boughts eventually, too, I guess. (But I'll take 'em out to scare door-to-door pests!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Intro, Short On Details
This book tells you what to look out for during examination and diagnosis and how to make use of study casts for treatment planning. I find the chapters on bone grafting to be especially helpful.

However, there are 2 problems. As expected in this sunrise industry, the implant systems featured in the book are already quite outdated. I can't imagine myself using an external hex anymore. Restoration nowadays is also a lot less complicated with a wider range of abutments and other accessories.

Secondly, the surgical techniques are almost never explained in detail. Perhaps an interactive handson course would be better able to impart that, but if you're a newbie, don't expect to learn much about surgical procedures. A bit disappointing for me when I first bought it, given the size and price of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars What Every Young Dentist Should Know And Not Be Afraid to Ask
This comprehensive dental implant textbook is a must for the dentist who wants to be well informed on the intricacies of placing and restoring dental implants.

From case selection to surgical technique and prosthetic applications, this book is not only informative, but should be reviewed regularly.Even maintenance and hygiene protocols are addressed in wonderful detail.

The young dental student coming out of their program needs to comprehend many techniques not completely taught in dental school.Dental implants have proven to be a viable alternative to conventional dental treatment and need to be understood well to discuss with potential patients.

Dr. Babbush has done a wonderful job going through the physiology and technical aspects of modern dental therapy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wow
This book is nothing but articles copypasta'd off Wikipedia and sold at a ludicrously high price, with NO editing or proofreading at all. The articles are not checked for accuracy, or cleaned up, so the text in the printed book is rather clunky, with poor-quality black and white images.

Not only that, but they picked a picture of a guy in PAIN for the cover. Not very encouraging for a book on dentistry, no?

5 out of 5 dentists agree that this book is terrible. These same dentists also recommend that you brush at least twice a day. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide-step by step-love it!
I have to have an implant within the next few months. I highly recommend this guide-it's concise and provides the background you need to have the procedure. It also contains some interesting historical facts, but is written for the every-day reader. Excellent resource for this procedure!

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise, Unbiased Information
This book provides a very useful guide for patients contemplating dental implants. It is clearly written, printed in large typeface and gives just the right amount of information to help potential implant patients make up their minds.

However, I find the book cover a bit too thin. It keeps curling up and the 4 pages of colour photos seem like the colour separator didn't do a very good job. I would still recommend that my patients read the book for its great content.
