Excellent Condition

Motivation and direction
I have been checking out this book from the library for years. Finally got around to getting my own copy and one for a friend. Christopher has the reasons, the method and the motivation for getting rid of excess and organizing everything.

Uninspired
An uninspiring collection of essays on present day life in American Boarding Schools.The book aims to follow in the footsteps of a number of distinguished paens to life in the English Public Schools.A surfeit of realism and an excess of youthful sincerity robs the essays of all interest.The result is a compendium neither erudite nor amusing.A sort of Lonely Planet Guide to boarding schools - except less informative.Do give it a pass.

Suggests new ways to think about maximizing room space
This is one of the first books I read which suggested truly individualized ways for home owners, office planners, etc..to think about the way they used their space - rather than suggesting a cookie cutter approach to room and storage function. I really liked that approach.
This point was driven home early in the book where one homeowner showcases a collection of lunchboxes - not something that just anyone would collect - and, obviously, requiring an innovative use of wall space to highlight them.In other, more traditional rooms, other storage ideas were suggested, along with floor plans to make the maximum use of space. There is a strong emphasis on form, function and aesthetics - in short, great ideas which also look good.

What a Disappointment
A few helpful hints among 160 pages of wasted space.Not a solution in the book.Nice pictures, but not practical for the family looking for storage and orgainzation ideas.Even the choice of font and layout make this one difficult to read.If you are looking for a practical home orgainization book (I was looking for a home office organization book), skip this one.

Expected more...
I was anticipating more forward thinking solutions to the home organization problem.I was not, however, disappointed with the photographs.Having recently purchased the Lighting Design Sourcebook by Wilhide, I knew, at the very least I would be getting some beautiful photos.The book is broken down into areas of the home (kid's rooms, living spaces...)and attacks each one separately offering "stylish" storage solutions.This book is clearly aimed at the homeowner looking to throw out the cardboard closet organizer and add a built-in, not the professional designer looking to supplement a design library with novel storage design resolutions. ... Technical...yet understandable
The authors did a wonderful job of compiling years of scientific research into a natural history book.This is definately a book for the more scientifically-oriented community.It is nice to see the technical aspects included, rather than oversimplifying the material into a "storybook." The missing star is for the price...but this is probably a matter related to the publisher rather than the authors.

An absurdly overpriced pamphlet masquerading as a book.
A person who pays $60 for a paperback volume onnatural history mightnaturally expect to receive a fairly hefty tome. This book, however, is amere 200 quarto pages cobbled together mainly from a series of technicalpapers. The language and style are classically dull, dry sciencespeak.Although said by its editors to be designed to appeal to a broad audience,it's strictly for bear bionerds. The clothbound version is even moreoutrageouly overpriced at $120!This thing is obviously aimed at peoplewho have government grant money to throw around.
