The world of alternative medicine can be an intimidating and confusing place - so many different types of practices all claiming success for improved health.

The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Alternative Medicine is an easy-to-follow comprehensive resource for therapies as diverse as Chinese medicine, aromatherapy, massage, biofeedback, dream study, herbal remedies, meditation, Ayuredic medicine, homeopathy, yoga, prayer, and much more.

Written in easy to understand language, the Absolute Beginner's Guide to Alternative Medicine guides readers through the hype to the heart of alternative therapy, explaining how to find a qualified practitioner, how diagnoses are made in each field, and what treatments work best for which ailments. The author also explains how various therapies are used in conjunction with traditional Western medical treatment in complementary medicine. Now that medical doctors are discovering the power behind alternative medicine, patients are more likely than ever before to be referred for an alternative therapy in addition to traditional therapy. 5-0 out of 5 stars EDucate your self about your cats health of all ages!
My wife works for a vet office and the advise that they were giving I know was wrong, so I went to the library and found this book, if you own a cat you should own this book or one like it, since alot of the product that are being sold are not even good for there health to have in them or on them, we are not 100% into the holistic health, but our cats had diareaha and we were told all of the norm then when it didn't clear up, well, they told us we should be feeding "dry" food to kittens. Well fortunitly we had already read the book, and alot of the things that he had, like a month of antibiotics messed up his insides. These ladies give several ways to help your cat, not just one, that is great since some items are hard to find. Now if I can get my little one to poop in the box I would be great:)

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference for Cat Lovers Looking to Give Their Cats the Best Life Possible
The Natural Cat by Anitra Frazier explains all aspects of raising a cat to be happy, healthy, and well-adjusted.Frazier starts by discussing cat behavior and communication. Her insights will help cat owners get desired behavior from their cats. The Natural Cat moves into a discussion of how to feed cats to provide them with the most nutritious and healthy food possible.Other topics in The Natural Cat include the litterbox, scratching posts, grooming, and medical care - both traditional and holistic.Frazier has created a terrific reference book that is easy to comprehend, easy to read, easy to apply, and filled with information on providing the most natural life possible to cats living with humans.

5-0 out of 5 stars good for people too
I used the information in the original of this book many years ago when an adopter in a cat shelter told me that his allergic wife could be around cats as long as they ate the supplements suggested in the book. This was a new way of thinking for me.So for years after that I routinely made up the combination of ingredients, all things I knew and understood, and added the requisite tablespoons to my cats' food.My allergic husband and son got better and better and lived happily with the cats. For that alone the book is worth having and reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Holistic Health book!
Ms Frazier has an exceptional ability to observe, assimilate info, and come up with great effective ways of caring for Cats (see my review of her "It's a Cat's Iife...").She has included info for well Cats, sick Cats, kittens, new Cats, old Cats, problem Cats, long/short hair Cats, stray/feral Cats, abused Cats, etc. Good info on foods, making your own food, etc., various diseases, behavioural problems, litter box info, et.al.
The technical stuff is guided by Dr Pitcairn, the famous 1st Vet to really espouse holistic care for Cats, and others. I have only scanned my copy to date, but everything I've seen is right on, and, Though I've been studying about Cats for 12 yrs, this book has MUCH I've never seen before!I consider it a must-have book, for making sure your kitty is healthy and happy for a long time. (If kitty is happy, we're happy!)

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!!!
I had an older edition of this book and I replaced it with a new edition with this purchase.

I take a lot of supplements as do my cats.I have been looking for good ideas to get my cats on a more natural and healthy diet and this book gave me many ideas.
If you were as concerned about the pet food recall a few years ago as I was
you will enjoy this book.A good book to read along side it is The Nature of Animal Healing by Martin Goldstein DVM.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book ... very interesting theories.
I have a lot of knowledge and some hands on experience in energy healing.Dr. King obviously has a strong background in the healing arts.

I fell on some icy steps after I had finished reading the book.I landed rather badly on my hip and had to sit there for a few moments before I could get up.I tried the exercise of repeating the fall (without actually falling) and saying "Nothing happened ... nothing happened ... nothing happened."I still ended up with quite a bad bruise and a lot of soreness. It might have been a lot worse if I hadn't done that.I just have no way of knowing for sure.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK.
He offers alot of different options but nothing helped me.I guess I was hoping for an instant healing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing is explained
Akashic Who's Who: Of Psychics, Mediums, Healers and More!

Here is a book that surprized me totally, what this is is a dictionary of a variety of styles and methods of healing that can used any time any where on anyone.I am keeping this one on my desk for easy reference. It cleary explains how to incorporate healing into our every day lives, sort of a personality match for different energies. It stresses that anyone can heal any ailment, disease, addiction and pain. Not only do these different healing techniques work, but they are quite easy to follow with the information given. The research on these techniques gave enough credulance that I came away wanting to immediately try some out at least once to see the outcome, i was amazed! If something works out likek this then lets all incorporate our attitude to be ready to heal at a moments notice under any sudden circumstance, could be a first aid tool of sorts.

This book is indeed timely, the manner of our changing times that we live in is bombared toxically in all elements, affecting our bodies, minds and soul, this is the hand book to use.It opened me up to many more techniques that effectively heal clients, other people and pets.

Nice work by author Serge Kahili King, Ph.D., btw he has published other books that are excellant sources of information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on Healing I have ever read!
I think my title says it all. I thank the Gods for Serge Kahili King. I have been a Healer for 30 years and have also read a lot of books. His is the finest I;ve ever read on the subject...why? Because his techniques really work. I shall be recommending this book to all who come to me for Healing in the future so that they can learn to help themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Bought for a class...glad I have it.
I bought this book as a requirement for a class, but I have found it to be very useful outside of a "school environment".Lots of information and resources.Worth buying if you are one who wishes to create a more holistic approach to your lifestyle.

3-0 out of 5 stars An Invitation to Absurdity:
So, this book does offer many synonyms for that central figment of holistic [whatever that means] medicine / CAM, that physiology is controlled by a "life force."

You get: "every society had a term for the life force [...e.g.] pneuma [...] chi (qi) [...] life force [...] prana [...] ki [...] mana [...] bioenergy, biomagnetism, subtle energy [p.227...] chi (qi), or life force [p.228]."

I particularly like the claim:

"the basic premise underlying the science [!!!] of homeopathy is that the body's own healing process is activated to cure illness naturally [...] the remedies stimulate and increase the vital force (often referred to as the life force) [...] the vital force is the energy responsible for the health status of the body [...] homeopathy is based on the theory that illness emerges as a result of a disturbance of the body's vital force, causing an imbalance in the energy within a person [p.412]."

Well, vitalism is hugely outside of science.

So, I fully appreciate the absurdity: science = science-ejected.

-r.c.

Product Description
This edited volume of essays is the first inter-disciplinary scholarly collection to provide an in-depth and new perspective on the medical and scientific activity of one of the eighteenth century's most successful and controversial theological figures, John Wesley. These essays, written by established scholars in the field, convincingly correct a persistent view of Wesley as an irresponsible religious enthusiast who confused medical science and theology. The reader is given here instead a picture of someone who was a critical admirer of Enlightenment principles: a deeply pious individual who could minister to the physical and spiritual welfare of the poor, applying remedies for the body or prayer for the soul as and when appropriate. ... Product Description
Alternative medicine, once an anti-establishment outsider, has enjoyed such growing popularity in recent years that it has generated a new medical industry, complete with adherents, practitioners, researchers, lobbyists, and regulations. As it has grown, alternative medicine has gradually assumed a different position in the provision of health care. Combining ethnographic study with quantitative data, Judith Fadlon explains the popularity of alternative medicine, as well as the ease with which individuals now move between conventional and alternative medicine and between different alternative modalities. She concludes that alternative medicine has been undergoing domestication, a process by which the foreign is rendered familiar. Although the focus of the study is urban Israel, it is argued that domestication is a major force at work in a number of Western countries. ... Read more
