One of my ADULT sons requested a copy of this book to use in his own home and job related activities. This book is absolutely the best....as a mother, teacher, counselor, and school administrator, I have used many!

THE BOOK IS TRUE TO ITS TITLE.

TOO BAD I COULD NOT ORDER MORE UNDER ONE MAILING. I NEEDED 10 MORE TO SEND TO FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.

Don't miss this informative book on childhood nutrition.I feel much more confident in my food selections, and my kids are happy at mealtime!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Realistic and Practical Guide to Feeding Kids Right
I'm giving this wonderful book as a gift to all my friends who are starting families. It is packed with practical information about how we parents can manage to get the best, most nutritious foods into our kids.

It covers all the developmental stages - from infancy, into the"finicky eater" years, and through the teens, when high-fat,low-nutrient fast foods seem to hold the most allure.

Dr. Goldberggives a wealth of easy-to-understand information on kids' basic nutritionalneeds and also debunks long-held assumptions about the real value of somepopular dietary stand-bys (like peanut butter).I really appreciate allthe practical advice he gives here.He not only tells parents what's best,he explains why.So, rather than simply preaching breastfeeding to newmothers, he gives sound, compelling reasons why infants benefit most frommother's milk.

As a pediatrician and parent, Dr. Goldberg seems tounderstand the practical problems we all face in actually getting our kidsto eat what's good for them. The temptations of high-fat high-carb fastfoods are all around us.Taking all that into consideration, he provideslots of easy, delicious recipes that we can make for kid's meals, schoollunch boxes, and snacks. You can tell he appreciates good food himself -there are no dry, gritty or bland "health foods" on the menu. Henames brands here, too - some products to avoid and some that can enhance ahealthy, delicious diet kids (and parents)will actually want to eat.

Thumbs up on this one for its wise and parent-friendly advice!

1-0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition more than hardcover
At the time of this review, the kindle edition of this book is $ 2.11 more than the hardcover is going for on Amazon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fantasy Food for Fantasy Children
This author lives in alternative universe where 1) parents have the time to prepare nearly all of the items in it like "spinach omelet with potatoes, zucchini, and tomato" and 2) children are willing to eat stuff like "orzo salad."Maybe if you don't have a job this might work. And maybe if your child is is an adult it might work too. It's a huge waste of time buying this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great purchase.
There are so many great interesting ideas. Perhaps not all are great for children but we also use the ideas for our lunches as well. Some are very easy while others are a bit more involved. I need to get back to this book so that wehave more interesting lunches instead of doing the mundane cold cuts.

3-0 out of 5 stars Chicken, Mayo and Tortillas
I was really excited to get this book based on the reviews I read about it.I like the size of the book and the fact that it is hardbound. There are pictures for some of the recipes, but not all.I would like to see more pictures for every recipe. The intro to the book is really good because it talks about what kinds of foods should be in a lunch and how to pack the lunch to maintain food safety etc. There is a lot of useful information there.Plus, there are little tips throughout the book. The reason why I gave it 3 stars is because it does have a lot of recipes with chicken, mayo and tortillas. It would have been nice to see more variety. Like the title of the book, not all of these recipes are for a lunch box.In addition to chicken there is a lot of tuna.Once I swap out the tuna for chicken, this will be a chicken cookbook. This book is not what I thought it would be, but maybe once I start making some of the recipes I will like it better?I will most likely keep the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
I figured if I got one more thing to pack in my picky 7 year old's lunch box, this would be worth it. We achieved that goal and he is interested in trying a few other things.Good pictures.Worth it. ... Read more

Product Description
Cooper Gillespie, an extremely intelligent and handsome Welsh springer spaniel, is a dog of discriminating taste and strong opinions. Now Cooper, with the assistance of cookbook author Sally Sampson and the transcription services of his favorite human, Susan Orlean, has put together 50 delectable recipes for snacks, meals, and treats for your canine companion.

Maybe you're cooking everything because your collie has colitis or your Akita has a wheat allergy or your older dog just isn't thriving on commercial kibble. Maybe you're mixing up the occasional biscuit or treat to help your best fur-bearing friend over that I-just-ate-a-tennis- ball-and-don't-feel-so-good episode. Whatever the reason, the recipes in this book (which have been approved by dog trainer and nutritional consultant Stacy Alldredge) will satisfy the most discerning doggie palate. Many of them, in fact, can be shared with a favorite human (though preferably not from the same dish).

Illustrated with more than 50 endearing black-and-white photographs of Cooper and friends by Cami Johnson, and liberally seasoned with stories, quotes, and nutrition tips, Throw Me a Bone makes a dog's dinner something to look forward to.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for making special treats or as a coffee table book
I picked up this book because I prefer to make homemade meals for my dog and also appreciated Sally Samson's work on The Figs Table: More Than 100 Recipes for Pizzas, Pastas, Salads, and Desserts with Todd English. When I picked up this book I was not disapointed. It is full of diverse recipes and beautiful pictures of various breeds of dogs.Making it even more endearing is the fact that the preface to each recipe is written from the dog, Cooper's, point of view.It also has very cute lists of dog related bookes and movies at the end.Because of this I think it would be a perfect gift for another who is a hardcore dog lover and has a tendency to pamper their pooch.

That said, the one major flaw in this book is that it is lacking in nutritional information and guidance on how to create a solid diet for your dog.In fairness to the author, the title doesn't necessarily imply this. However, when 'healthy' is part of the title I expect to know what makes each recipe balanced or healthy.Again in fairness to the author she does have a dog trainer and nutrition consultant weigh in on the recipes, but we don't get much detail about what she finds good about the recipes.

Because of this I will be using the cookbook's recipes more as between meal treats or occasional special meals for a special occasion or birthday. If you are looking to the book for this purpose you will be more than satisfied as the book contains everything from Bow-Wow Birthday cake to Pawcakes to Cinnamon Bites. For everyday meals though I am continuing to search for a solid book that gives me more guidance on how I should be balancing my dog's diet to ensure good health.

2-0 out of 5 stars glad I didn't buy
I borrowed this from the library before I bought.Turns out it was a good idea.I only found 3 recipes I would actually make for our dog.too bad... the pictures are super cute.

5-0 out of 5 stars simple and informative
This book is a great addition to my dog food cookbooks. It is simple and includes little info boxes that contain nutritional excerpts. I have other books that go into more detail, but sometimes I just want a quick simple recipe with quick simple nutritional notes. Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stuff to know ..... lots of fun too!
There are lots of books out there in regards to furry-friends ..... of every breed, coloring, personality & size. Stories about/from their lives, and the hopeful forever homes that will eventually awaitfortunate sweethearts. To me, each and every pooch is a honey-pie! I wish it were possible to have a dozen! So, in the end, it's all about the love and care .... how we create great lives for our pets. This fun and funny (laughter on every page!) book, (vibe is different)...... mainly about FOOD & how to prepare it, is a winner!! Good/helpful things to learn, & EVERYTHING to enjoy. Our "wigglebutts" will be HEALTHY-HAPPY CAMPERS!!

PEOPLE EVERYWHERE ..... PLEASE-PLEASE .... ADOPT (YOUR) PETS FROM LOCAL SHELTERS!! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM BREEDERS OR PET STORES. ALSO .... think twice/three times, before letting (!any!) pets have babies. It's most often a no-win situation. People have to realize that pets will beliving their lives around us for 12+ years. Poochies & kitties need daily care .... lots of love that goes with it. THINK with your heart first and foremost. All pets deserve good healthy (cruelty-free) homes to live in. Thanks for listening. Marcia/Chicago, IL

5-0 out of 5 stars Lip Smacking and Tail Wagging!!
Of all the home made treats I have cooked up so far, the recipies from this book actually get my little doggy to do commands before being asked in the hopes of getting a tasty morsel.I packed a kong full of little bits and pieces from a couple different recipies and for the first time my little doggy made 'yummy' noises while he worked to get out the treasures. My doggy is very finicky, and has given two paws up for each batch made- I HIGHLY reccommend these recipies!!! ... It's always a question - what to give your kids to eat? You want them to eat healthy food, but you don't want them coming home saying, "I didn't have time at recess", or, "I didn't like the look of my sandwich and anyway I dropped it in the yard!". With this book, you'll always have ideas for sandwiches, snacks, and drinks - even breakfast and dinner treats that will keep your kids healthy, strong and energetic. The recipe titles in this book are almost as yummy as the recipes themselves: Monkey Bars, Wiggle Sicles, Corny Pudding, Tomato Balloons. "New Healthy Snacks for Kids" provides pizzazz to lunch and snack time, and helps calm the chaos of cranky children who need to eat now. Warner has great ideas for smuggling nutrition into old favourites. She suggests using "props" to spice up food and get kids enthusiastic about mealtime.
