Product Description
The 'guided discovery' approach of "Teach Yourself English Grammar" will give you the confidence to work out the rules of grammar for yourself and will help you learn and understand English grammar without a teacher. Each unit starts by looking at the meaning of the structure and asks you questions to check that you have understood. Then, it gives the form and looks at the spelling. It goes on to list the most common mistakes students make and ends with practice and exercises so you can have a final check that you have fully understood the grammar point the unit has been teaching you. The answers to all the exercises are at the back of the book, so you can check your progress and go back over grammar points that you have not fully understood. You can dip in and out of the book as a quick grammar check or you can work your way through it to give you a thorough grounding in essential and more advanced grammar. ... Read more

Product Description

Learning to Teach Modern Foreign Languages in the Secondary School has established itself as the leading textbook for student teachers of modern foreign languages in the UK. The practical focus of the book is underpinned by a theoretical perspective, and students are encouraged to develop a personal approach to modern foreign language teaching. An account is also taken of relevant statutory frameworks.

This fully revised, third edition has been thoroughly updated to take account of recent policy and curriculum changes. And, with the recent increased emphasis on teachers as researchers, and the alignment of many PGCE courses, with Masters Level criteria, reference to important concepts and theoretical positions have been strengthened with strong reference to their relevance in the context of professional practice and a new chapter discussing the findings of research on Second Language Acquisition and Foreign Language Learning has been added. Other chapters cover a wide range of relevant topics, including:

  • teaching methods and learning strategies
  • teaching in the target language and developing cultural awareness
  • the teaching of grammar
  • differentiation and assessment
  • the use of ICT in modern foreign language teaching.

More than 40,000 learners worldwide have used TLCTS courses. TLCTS utilizes artificial intelligence technologies during the authoring process and at run time to process learner speech, engage in dialogue, and evaluate and assess learner performance. 5-0 out of 5 stars A life saver
I highly recommend this course. When I first came to the States all my English was British. At the hotel there was a mix up because my words for the items in the bedroom / apartment were all different. They did not know what I was talking about. I have now recommended this course to people who are coming for the first time. Very useful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not really American
This book is okay if you know a little English and you want to learn a little more, but the English in it is not really American. The cassettes might have American voices, but you can see that people in England wrote the dialogues. The people in the dialogues say many things that Americans would not say.For example, one teacher says his students are "lovely"".It is very common to say this in England, but not in the United States, and in the U.S., you seldom call men "lovely", because it sounds too feminine. There are also other things that tell you Americans did not write the dialogues:The characters often say, "Do you?" in places where Americans would say, "You do?"They also use the word "actually" too much, and in places where an American would probably not say it unless he's been living in England for many years. You can use British English in the United States, of course, but if you really want to learn *American* English, it is better to get a book that was really written in America. There is a huge number of real American books to choose from, so you don't need this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars You need that book
That book is very good, but if you don't have the cassette tape you gonna stay crazy, 'cause you need that too, to learn very fast, enjoy it. ... Read more
