Chicago: Dept. Of Health Today the food and dairy Program does not directly serve the general public We willprovide food service education and information designed to reach individuals http://www.ci.chi.il.us/Health/FoodAndDairy.html
Extractions: (312)747-FOOD The Food and Dairy Protection Division had existed in Chicago as part of the Department of Health from the mid 1940's through 1978. During a reshuffling of the city's organizational structure by a new administration in 1979, the Food and Dairy Division was moved under the umbrella of the Department of Consumer Services. Sanitarians (inspectors) previously assigned to food service were now assigned to many different types of inspections. These Sanitarians now checked retail establishments for weight and measures' compliance, price markings, proper licensing and general sanitary conditions. This situation continued until 1987, when the Food and Dairy Program was moved back into the Department of Health. When the Food and Dairy Program was moved back into the Department of Health, we were literally a brand-new agency and virtually had to start over. Starting over required intense effort and dedication on the part of the Food and Dairy Protection Division staff and the willing cooperation of other city agencies. During the past twelve years we have developed our staff, our facilities, our interdepartmental liaisons and our industry relationships so that today we function as a highly motivated and highly effective food protection agency.
