Product Description
The project goal is to understand the operating mechanisms underlying the performance of polymer hybrid photovoltaics to enable the development of a photovoltaic with a maximum power conversion efficiency over cost ratio that is significantly greater than current PV technologies. Plastic or polymer-based photovoltaics can have significant cost advantages over

conventional technologies in that they are compatible with liquid-based plastic processing and can be assembled onto plastic under atmospheric conditions (ambient temperature and pressure) using

standard printing technologies, such as reel-to-reel and screen printing. Moreover, polymer-based PVs are light weight, flexible, and largely unbreakable which make shipping, installation and

maintenance simpler. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and useful
This book, while quite hard to get into, has benefited me greatly. I now have a nuclear powered hair dryer to present to my mother at Christmas. Even at the slightly over-the-top price, this book is still a winner. I will never have to buy batteries or oil again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Seems expensive, but knowledge is priceless.
From the moment I started reading this fascinating piece of literature I constantly would ask myself one question..."Is this worth the $6,000 I just spent?".In a word, yes.Sure, the price may ward off some people but when you break it down, it's only a bit over $10 per page. You can't see a movie anymore for $10.As you read the ins and outs of boiling water reactors, pressurized steam reactors, and a multitude of new advancements in the world of nuclear energy, you'll quickly forget that you could have gone to Europe, bought a decent used Harley, or even a well equipped man cave instead.Buy it.Right now.

1-0 out of 5 stars Price Is Too Cheap
I almost bought the book for $6076.20. But then I started feeling guilty about the $1,713.80 savings I would get from buying the Kindle edition and I decided not to make the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars They're Listening!
After all this time, Amazon and the publishers are listening to our $6999.99 boycott! To show my pleasure and to reward them for doing so, Ipurchased this book.

The first couple of chapters were slow and went over the basics of nuclear energy that I learned in the 4th grade. However, by chapter 3, the pace really started to pick up and I could. not. put. it. down! The suspense was killing me!

I now have about half a reactor built in my backyard and am waiting a delivery from Home Depot and Bed, Bath and Beyond to finalize the construction.

When it is completed, I will drink from the pool, as illustrated in chapter 13, in order to obtain great strength so that I may, once and for all, pound my older brother in to the sand with my pinkie finger, as I threatened to do all those years ago, for putting me in a headlock and slugging me in the gut.

Thank you, Landolt and Bornstein! You helped one girl get her revenge!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written.. Was this thing even edited?
Stumbled across this book and thought, "You gotta be kidding me." After I laughed my way through the reviews, I click over to the hard cover version to do the "Look Inside" thing.

All I can say is this:
Was this book even edited? The second sentence of the first chapter sounds like someone NON-ENGLISH attempting English!

And I quote, "Since long time before mankind started to develop technologies to provide engery from fusion of light atomic nuclei and from fission of heavy atomic nuclei, nature has been releasing energy from fusion and fission processes: Fusion of hydrogen to helium nuclei is the energy source of the stars like the sun."

Since long time...?

There is so much more going wrong with this overly long sentence, I will leave it at that.

Since long time...

hahahaha

Makes me think of "Full Metal Jacket" ... "me love you long time..."

lol

Product Description

Fibre-to-the-Home networks constitute a fundamental telecom segment with the required potential to match the huge capacity of transport networks with the new user communication demands. Huge investments in access network infrastructure are expected for the next decade, with many initiatives already launched around the globe recently, driven by the new broadband service demands and the necessity by operators to deploy a future-proof infrastructure in the field. Dense FTTH Passive Optical Networks (PONs) is a cost-efficient way to build fibre access, and international standards (G/E-PON) have been already launched, leading to new set of telecom products for mass deployment. However, these systems only make use of less than 1% of the optical bandwidth; thus, relevant research is taking place to maximize the capacity of these systems, with the latest opto-electronic technologies, demonstrating that the huge bandwidth available through the fibre access can be exploited in a cost-efficient and reliable manner.

Next-Generation FTTH Passive Optical Networks gathers and analyzes the most relevant techniques developed recently on technologies for the next generation FTTH networks, trying to answer the question: what s after G/E-PONs?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great! The book came early and in great condition
Trustworthy, good condition and the book came early.
The book is a birthday present for a friend. According to my friend, the information is very useful to get an idea of wind turbine design.

4-0 out of 5 stars Real Handbook for Wind Energy
A deep look into the wind energy and wind conversion. Very extensive and deep into details considering the wind power technical aspects. I strongly advise for those in the technical wind energy area dealing with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference for Acedemic and Professional Engineering
I have read many similar books, I have also read much of the latest literature on wind turbine aerodynamics. Thus, I can say that of all the books written on wind turbines this book is written at the highest level. Much of the content within this book reflects what is best theory for practicle wind turbine engineering. Very indepth analysis of the aerodynamics and explains a lot of the concepts in great detail, where other books will gloss over. There are some things that readers should be aware of, first this book is only for people serious about wind turbine engineering. It is written at a level where some engineering knowledge is needed. I would recomend it for graduate students and proffesionals, but not for part time enthusiasts and hobyists.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must in your Wind Energy Collection
For anyone interested in wind energy this book is a must. When first take a look at the book you get pretty scaredbutjust let timego by while you get acquainted with more topics dealing withwind energyand you'll love it. The only thing left to say is thanks to the authors.the more you think you know about something the moreyou realise thatyou're not even half way there....

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and in depth
This book was written by people who spent their lives for something they loved. Their passion is evident from the in depth analysis and their personal contribution to many aspects of the presented theory.
This book is highly recommended to engineers and students, however it might not be very useful to people with limited engineering knowledge.
And a personal comment: If you are a Mechanical, of Aeronautical engineer fascinated by aerodynamics, David Sharp's section will surly challenge and intrigue you... ... Read more

Product Description
The discovery of high temperature superconductors (HTS) in 1986 by two IBM scientists led to an unprecedented explosion of research and development efforts world-wide because of the significant potential for practical applications offered by these materials. However, the early euphoria created by the exciting prospects was dampened by the daunting task of fabricating these materials into useful forms with acceptable superconducting properties. Progress towards this goal has been hindered by many intrinsic materials problems, such as weak-links, flux-creep, and poor mechanical properties. The above problems led to the development of the Second-Generation of HTS wires. Three methods were invented to produce flexible metallic substrates, which were also crystallographically biaxially textured, and resembled a long, mosaic single crystal. The first method invented is the Ion-Beam-Assisted-Deposition (IBAD). The second method developed was the Inclined-Substrate-Deposition (ISD). The third method invented is called the Rolling-assisted-biaxially-textured-substrates (RABiTS).The book is divided into four sections. The first section discusses the three methods to fabricate biaxially textured substrates, upon which, epitaxial YBCO or other HTS materials can be deposited to realize a single-crystal-like HTS wire. The second section includes chapters on various methods of HTS deposition such as - pulsed laser ablation (PLD), thermal co-evaporation, sputtering, pulsed electron beam deposition, ex-situ BaF2 by co-evaporation flowed by annealing, chemical solution based ex-situ processes, jet vapor deposition, metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), and liquid phase epitaxy (LPE). The third section includes detailed chapters on other HTS materials such as the various Tl-based and Hg-based conductors. These Second-Generation HTS conductors, also referred to as ... Read more
