Excerpt: The West Midland Bird Club is the UK's largest regional ornithological society. It has been serving birdwatchers and ornithologists in the four English counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the Metropolitan West Midlands, with lectures, field trips, research, a bulletin and an annual report, since 1929. It is a registered charity. There are branches in Birmingham, Kidderminster, Stafford, Solihull and Tamworth. It manages the Belvide Reservoir nature reserve in Staffordshire, the Harborne Reserve in Birmingham, and the Ladywalk Reserve in North Warwickshire, as well as running an access-permit scheme for Blithfield Reservoir and Gailey Reservoir in Staffordshire. The Club has an information centre at Kingsbury Water Park (Warwickshire) and sponsors bird feeding stations at Cannock Chase (Staffordshire) and Draycote Water (Warwickshire). It co-founded and helps to manage the Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory and was instrumental in securing Brandon Marsh as a nature reserve. Bill Oddie has been the Club's president since 1999. Excerpt: The Gower Ornithological Society is a society for professional and amateur birdwatchers covering the geographical areas of south Wales comprising Gower, Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot. The Gower Ornithological Society was founded in 1956 and offers a programme of meetings for birdwatchers in the areas mentioned above. The society has a shared web site with Glamorgan Bird Club.. The emblem of the society is an oystercatcher in flight with Whiteford Lighthouse in the background. The societys membership has always been quite small, at around 100 members, but it has always been a friendly and active society. The membership secretary of the society is currently Peter Douglas-Jones.The society also has a chairman, secretary, and treasurer. There is also two recorders of bird sightings, one for west Glamorgan and another for east Glamorgan. The aim of the society is to promote the conservation of wild birds and help people to learn about birds. The society also records the numbers and species of birds in the area for its annual report called Gower Birds. This report has been published annually since 1968. The society also produces a regular newsletter and produces a checklist of birds and works with many other conservation organisations.
