1-0 out of 5 stars This Guide Gets an F-
XAM should consider actually editing their study guides before publishing. Ridiculous mistakes such as "all mean are created equal" appear throughout the text. Come on XAM, even MS Word will catch this! But the worst part is the mistakes in the sample test answers. I can't recommend this guide to anyone except those looking to flush some money down the toilet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Errors Galore
I think overall the book is a good one to prepare for the test, but I just couldn't get over the spelling and grammar mistakes all throughout the book. It wasn't just one here and there. It was all through the book. If you are one to catch mistakes like this, it might be hard to focus on the content because you will be trying to fix the errors in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Generalist 111
Overall the book was very helpful to me and instrumental in me passing my test. But to be honest, for all you aspiring teachers out there, I know you'll appreciate this comment-- This book would be rated on the first or second levels of blooms taxonomy while the test would be on the application, synthesis level of blooms. Going through the book helped me review or learn for the first time, but its quiz questions are not on the same level as the actual test questions. In fact some of the quiz questions and answers aren't even covered in the chapter they reference. That occurred several times while I was going through the quiz. Also, you need to check the explanation for their answers on the quiz because more than once they will have printed one letter as an answer but give another letter in their explanation (i.e. they give "A" as the correct answer on one page, and on the next page when they explain what's correct, they will write "D" as the correct answer). My best advice is to buy the book, i held out from buying it for a while. Buy the book and then go on the test registration site and download the sample test. Do a pre-test using the quiz, study the subject, take the quiz again and then take the sample test questions for that subject. That will give you the best idea of how ready you are.
I studied off and on for 2 months. 240 is passing, I made a 276!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so great a study guide
Many grammatical, copyediting and factual errors in the review guide. It's annoying having to correct the errors to understand what you're studying.

The science section has many repeated errors involving climate science and man-made global warming, i.e. the author asserts that humans can and do control the climate of the earth, which is bogus and continually being proven false. She's allowed her opinion, but keep it out of study guide which should be opinion-less and fact-filled.

Many paragraphs in the entire guide, from English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science are simply reused later on in the guide for other TAKS; just cut and pasted, grammar and copyediting errors included.

Not that great of a guide unless you are new to Texas and totally unfamiliar with Texas public education standards.
