3-0 out of 5 stars Great resource book
Snoring Can Kill is very informative about the cause and dangers of sleep apnea. It includes a detailed description of the sleep study. Goldstein said "There are safe and effective medical solutions readily available to help a person stop snoring." However, no safe and effective solutions were offered. Suggested treatments have been proven to not be very successful. This book is a good resource book for sleep centers, respiratory therapists and the Sleep Disorders Dental Society members. ... Excerpt: Sleep apnea (or sleep apnoea in British English) is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. Each episode, called an apnea (Greek: (ápnoia), from - (a-), privative, (pnéein), to breathe), lasts long enough so that one or more breaths are missed, and such episodes occur repeatedly throughout sleep. The standard definition of any apneic event includes a minimum 10-second interval between breaths, with either a neurological arousal (a 3-second or greater shift in EEG frequency, measured at C3, C4, O1, or O2) or a blood oxygen desaturation of 34% or greater, or both arousal and desaturation. Sleep apnea is diagnosed with an overnight sleep test called a polysomnogram, or a "sleep study". Clinically significant levels of sleep apnea are defined as five or more episodes per hour of any type of apnea (from the polysomnogram). There are three distinct forms of sleep apnea: central, obstructive, and complex (i.e., a combination of central and obstructive) constituting 0.4%, 84% and 15% of cases respectively. Breathing is interrupted by the lack of respiratory effort in central sleep apnea; in obstructive sleep apnea, breathing is interrupted by a physical block to ai...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=28445 ... These exercises reduced snoring, but exercises moved my back molars. I now accumulate food in the enlarged space between my upper left molars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cure not cover up
This is a unique book. While most books on snoring and sleep apnea treat symptoms, Dr. Fong goes for a cure.
After showing the anatomy of the problem, he shows the limitations of other treatments. Weak muscle tone is a problem with snoring.
In one chapter, he describes Snore Terminator exercises. This directly attacks weak muscle tone. This may work on snoring and mild sleep apnea.
This book is not for everyone. His exercises takes time. His treatment is an alternative for snorers and mild sleep apnea. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of 30 minutes and my money!
What a joke of a so-called "book" that took me 30 minutes to read cover-to-cover. It's one of those books that you can buy in volume and re-sell as an "informational guide". It says basically, get diagnosed by a doctor, and get medical treatments of an airway machine or surgery. Very mis-leading. Don't buy! ... Read more

Product Description
Abstract:Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common and debilitating condition characterized by recurrent episodes of upper airway obstruction, resulting in intermittent occurrence of apnea–hypopnea. Clinical features include snoring or disturbed sleep, reduced concentration and memory, mood disorders, and excessive sleepiness (ES). Left undiagnosed and untreated, OSA may have detrimental consequences, including cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality, decreased health-related quality of life, and increased incidence of motor vehicle accidents. As most individuals affected by OSA will initially present in the primary care setting, primary care physicians have the opportunity to recognize the condition and refer patients for treatment when necessary. Management of the condition should include lifestyle changes and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment if required. Wakefulness-promoting agents may be considered if ES persists despite CPAP. Effective intervention for OSA not only provides symptomatic benefits, but also improves hypertension and reduces the risk for fatal and nonfatal CV events associated with the condition.
