Product Description
This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for apnea monitors across the states and cities of the United States. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 8,600 cities in the United States. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's state and of the United States is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state and city, latent demand estimates are created for apnea monitors. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the cities in the United States). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E., for apnea monitors in the United States. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided and concentrated across the cities and regional markets of the United States. For each state, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time. In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more

Product Description
Sleep apnea or sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder characterised by pauses in breathing during sleep. These episodes, called apneas (literally, "without breath"), each last long enough so one or more breaths are missed, and occur repeatedly throughout sleep. There are two distinct forms of sleep apnea: Central and Obstructive. Breathing is interrupted by the lack of effort in Central Sleep Apnea, but from a physical block to airflow despite effort in Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In Mixed Sleep Apnea, both types of events occur. Regardless of type, the individual affected with sleep apnea is rarely (if ever) aware of having difficulty breathing, even upon awakening. Sleep apnea is recognised as a problem by others witnessing the individual during episodes, or is suspected because of its effects on the body (sequelae). This book presents important new research in this field. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Early research into sleep apnea
The collection of writings provides insight into the early research done on the medical condition - sleep apnea. The writings are the product of a meeting hosted by the Kroc Foundation and edited by two of the great researchers on sleep disordered breathing from Stanford University - Drs. Christian Guilleminault and William C. Dement.

The papers in this book were written in 1977 when there two options for treating sleep apnea: inserting a tube in the throat below the upper airway (a trach) or radical weight loss (800 calories a day).We have come a very long way in 30 short years.

Of some interest is one of the co-authors on one essay - Colin E. Sullivan, who would, four years later, author a study on a new device that showed great promise in relieving the suffering from sleep apnea - continuous positive airway prressure (CPAP) and that changed everything.

It is a must have for those interested in the history of medical research on sleep apnea. ... Read more

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Apnea," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Apnea in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Apnea when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Apnea, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for apnea monitors across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as "regions"). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of "economic population", as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this "economic" definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city's marketing and distribution value vis-a-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for apnea monitors. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products ... Read more

Product Description
Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder characterised by repetitive, complete or partial closure of the upper airway during sleep. Many factors, including craniofacial abnormalities, influence upper airway obstruction during sleep. Sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) is related to different combinations of anatomical and functional aspects that produce the airway collapse in individual patients. To compensate for the craniofacial abnormalities and treat sleep apnea, there are some dental and maxillofacial surgical modalities. In this book, treatment and research of SAS are described mainly from clinical and neurophysiological aspects in the stomatognathic system. ... Read more
