2-0 out of 5 stars No answer key
Excellent workbook and I have no doubt it will help tremendously
with practice skills and really mastering the concepts.
However, there are NO answers so unless you are an A ++
math student this may not be a good book for you. I am trying to find the
teachers guide with answers because I believe this is a good book.
Algebra is my worst subject so I won't be using it with my son yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Follows the textbook well
Have not used it much as my son does well in class. Looks like it follows the book really well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book for the price, but no answer key
This book is meant to accompany a pre-algebra textbook referenced in the instructions on each page.If you buy this book, be prepared to give your student significant instruction before making assignments. In other words, this is not a math workbook for a self-directed student.

There is no answer key either, so you'll be spending a lot of time solving problems yourself.

The questions are clear and usually have enough space to complete the work right on the page.

I bought this book for a summer workbook for a soon-to-be 5th grader who is doing advanced mathematics. For the price, the workbook is good, but there are probably workbooks that are easier on parents for summer work.

4-0 out of 5 stars math book

I had very bad experience this time. I would like to let people know that I have never received the book after my payment. I need Amazon's help to get this issue resolved. I have contacted seller through e-mail, but never get back from seller. Please be careful and never order book from this seller....

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome 6th grade book
I bought this text book for my brother, and he loved it! This is a great book for students who are newly entering into middle school. There is a smooth transition b/w chapters and I love how my brother has to think a little harder for answering some challenging problems. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is learning pre-algebra.

Table of Contents:

1. Variables, Expressions, and Integers
2. Solving Equations
3. Multi-step Equations and Inequalities
4. Factors, Fractions, and Exponents
5. Rational Numbers and Equations
6. Ratio, Proportion, and Probability
7. Percents
8. Linear Functions
9. Real Numbers and Right Triangles
10. Measurement, Area, and Volume
11. Data Analysis and Probability
12. Polynomials and Nonlinear Functions
13. Angle Relationships and Transformations

Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recomend
I bought this book to help me before I started algebra class. I did each chapter at my own pace, and did all of the exercises. This really helped me. I aced my class! I found that this book has the perfect combination of visual with written instructions and explanations. I plan to purchase more books from the Demystifying series as I progress through my maths classes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great place to start a math journey or re-education.
Great math book.I dropped out of high school, and barely got by in math classes back then, and sometimes not at all... (C-'s, D's and F's).Im 40 now, and Ive been doing well with this course.Ive spent about 2 hours every Sat. and Sunday in a Barnes and Noble coffee shop for about 4 months to do it (Im on the final chapter now and only have 5 pages left). Finally I'm really beginning to understand math, andI Get it!Sometimes i had to stare at a problem for 10 to 15 minutes and think in through. But it finally paid off.

Anyways, I feel like Im ready for intermediate algebra at the College level now for real.My only criticism is that i wish the graphing section had more in depth training on graphs and example problems/solutions,I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn math and build a solid foundation.

I wish the author would put up a website for any reported errors and solutions also (there were only a few).

5-0 out of 5 stars A Teacher Who Wants You To Succeed
Thank you, Mr. Bluman. You have cracked into my brain, and now I can do math, without a calculator, without feeling like my head will explode! Mr. Bluman is a gifted, no-nonsense teacher who can teach anyone math with this straightforward, brilliantly crafted self-teaching manual. He even tackles math phobia -it is real- and dispatches it effectively with tips to get yourself going every day. This book should be in every junior high and high school library. He gives you the tools and then with practice, you can solve the problems. The format ofexplanations step-by-step, repetition, practice, and practice tests and final tests in every chapter is an excellent approach to truly "getting it". Thanks a million!

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked really well for me
I bought this book (and a bunch of others) because I wanted to prepare myself for a college math assessment test and score high enough that I could jump straight into statistics (I know, pretty ambitious!).

My current situation?

1) I haven't studied algebra (or any math at all for that matter!) in about 20 years

2) I didn't learn math in English

So, after opening the first algebra book and realizing I didn't remember how to do even more basic operations, like dividing large numbers by large numbers, I decided I needed to get something that went even further back.

I bought about 10 books, thinking that it was a good investment, as skipping the basic math classes at about $300, plus the cost of books, for each, would save me quite a bit of money.

After reading about 40 pages of the first basic math book, I was very disappointed. It was unclear, complicated and just didn't make much sense to me. I started to wonder if things had changed THAT much since I used to study. I put the book aside and pulled this one from the pile. Well, it has 12 chapters and I have completed 8 so far. The book is great! I read some bad reviews and, who knows, maybe chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12 are rubbish... But I doubt it!

The approach is logical, practical and easy to follow. There are quite a few exercises and tests at the end of each chapter, as well as a complete test at the end of the book. I usually complete a couple of chapters, then take all the chapter-end tests from the previous chapters again before proceeding. This way, the information stays fresh in my mind.

I liked this book so much that I bought about 4 or 5 more books from the DeMystified collection, including Algebra and Math Word Problems (the latter by the same author). Ok, so maybe I buy books compulsively at times, but I am very excited about math, probably for the first time in my life.

If you need to take a refresher course, or if you need support for classes you are taking, I truly recommend this book!

Good luck!

2-0 out of 5 stars This book has a few errors
HAHA! Ok, I'll explain why I am laughing. I have been working on this book and everything has been good until chapter 11 page 211. I remembered when I first bought this book, I read this comment and thought "ok the guy (S.Brown) just doesn't know how to answer the problem" I came on here looking for this comment to see if it was the same comment I had. That is why I am laughing. The author really does just give up after chapter 10! Although there are a few errors in this book, it's a pretty ok book. Considering I didn't even know my multiplication table before I started this book and now I can pass math tests easily. Yah! Except the graphing. Luckily I have three other math books that can help with this. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great format for Pre-Algebra help!
I bought this book because it was required by the school to go along with my daughter's Pre-Algebra textbook. She enjoys the quick lessons and the format is very encouraging, even for math-phobics.It is perfect for a home-schooled child or even a student that needs extra help at home.It is very easy to read and follow along with.As a math teacher myself, I was impressed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Deal!
I came across this while looking for the book for my daughter's pre-algebra class. It was only $2, so I decided to check it out. What a great deal! The book is punched so that it will fit in a 3 ring binder. The book is filled with lots of tips and practice exercises for the student. There's also lots of room for notes. The order of notes in this book correspond quite well to the order of lessons in her class textbook. The book's paper is a little thin, but it's much higher quality than I expected for the price. If you have a child in pre-algebra, buy this book! ... Read more

the book is very well laid out and is great for homeschooling. It teaches math simply and provides lots of exercises and examples. All the concept are explained clearly and thoroughly. Also it integrates geometry in the lessons so this would be fine to use to teach 7th and 8th (and maybe 6th).

5-0 out of 5 stars An efficient refresher!
I had not done math and algebra in years: this book walks you through the entire process of learning Math (RE-learning in my case) and I must say that it does a pretty good job. Not all "For Dummies" books are equal (some are really useless in my humble opinion) but this specific book holds to its title and its content. Recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars hard to follow
I used this book to prepare for a college placement test. It was very hard to follow and the steps were not explaoned clearly. I ended up buying a McGraw/Hill book instead, called "pre-algebra demystified". The problems that took me forever to learn in the "pre-algebra for dummies" book were solved easily using "pre-algebra demystified"

4-0 out of 5 stars Best teaching manual for Math Dummies
I am terrible in math. This book is the only book I've ever understood in regards to basic math and algebra.I strongly recommend it to anyone who has difficulties in math.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm
I didn't feel that it explained the steps clear enought so that I can understand them. It shows you the process but, it doesn't explain why. And if I don't know why, it's hard for me to know why and when to apply that step.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book for Dummies breaks it down
I am an older person and I had been trying to learn pre-algebra before finding this book. In the past i had taken a pre-algebra course and had failed it due to not understanding the exponents and expressions. I saw this book and read the intro on it and was pleasantly surprised by what i read. I have the book and have been going thru it by chapter, and i have to say, the way the author has it written is a clearer description of how to work the problems.
I am really glad i bought this book. If you have trouble understanding pre-algebra, this book will clearly explain how to work the problems and break it down in simple english for you. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn this subject. ... Read more

I received this product in a timely manner and in perfect conditionThank you

4-0 out of 5 stars VERY BASIC
I got this book to review over some basics before I went onto the Algebra I book. I took my last college math class, 3 years ago and I am preparing for chemistry in the Fall. I really felt this book was very simple and you can breeze through this book with no problem. I worked on this over 3 days, I went through every chapter and re-worked the problems I got wrong. It wont take long to go through, and you dont even have to dedicate that much time to it either. I am glad I went through it, but it was a lot more basic than what I was thinking it was going to be.
I did find several mistakes throughout the book, which is a hassle when your not sure if you go the problem right. Also the fractions are very small in the book, they really should up the font size for them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Geography wrong and some answer typos
The instructions and most of the information in this book are great and it tremendously helped me prepare for my next step into Algebra, and foremost I learned. The only problem I had was with the information towards the end of the book particularly with the Mayan numerals section.I want to clarify the Mayans dominated the southern part of Mexico, which is in North America, and most of Central America. The author erroneously wrote they were in South America.Mexico, Canada, and the United States of America are in the continent of North America.Central America divides North and South America. The great Incas were the dominate large tribe in South America. I also found many errors. Errors such as problems which did not equal the written answers.I hope this information is corrected in the next version so we do not confuse anymore readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars workbook only, please!
I bought the bundle of Basic Math and Pre-Algebra For Dummies plus the workbook.I started out trying to use them both but very quickly disregarded the book and worked only with the workbook.I figured I would reference the main book if I had any problems but ended up never using it at all.I have yet to receive my copy of Algebra for Dummies so I can't say that it doesn't pick up were this one leaves off, but I'm a little disappointed to see it's not by the same author.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic Math Refresher
After being out of school for twenty years, I am faced with the challenge of higher math again. This is a great way to get back up to speed. The book explains the basics in easy to understand terms for those just learning or looking to brush up on their skills. The only criticism I have is that there aren't enough practice questions. There are a few, but more would certainly be helpful. All in all this book is definitely worth the money. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Merrill Pre-Algebra: A Transition to Algebra
My rating for this textbook is five stars because this textbook has sections in which show how mathematics can be applied to modern-day jobs, and have easy-to-understand examples of the featured lesson. This textbook also have selected answers in which may help the student to understand the featured problem a little-bit better. This textbook is not always good---there are some things which might confuse the student, in which it confused me. The example on how to figure out arithmetic sequences have confused me for quite a while until I realized that was my method of figuring it out! I recommend some study guides to go with this textbook.

1-0 out of 5 stars Teaching anti-mathematics
This is one of worst math schoolbooks I've ever seen. Impression that book is written by mathematically illiterate people. Topics are placed chaotically. Complex issues are not properly explained. A lot of logical errors. Calculation of the cone's surface (p.502) - an awful example of mathematical fraud. Many problems are solved in a non-efficient, "brute force" way instead of showing powerful and elegant ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars I use it...I am in 6th grade
This is a really good book because it shows you algrebra in a slow and easy way, kind of like adding and subtracting, but harder. I would recomend this book for anybody who thinks that pre-algrebra is hard. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic Math & PreAlgebra
This book was very beneficial. I started back to school to work towards an associates degree which requires college level math. I was terrible at math in school and needed a quick refresher for the college placement test. This helped me tremendously. It is easy to follow and very informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dyslexic 14 year old
I bought the Basic Math and Pre-algebra cliff notes for my 14 year old dyslexic daughter.Anyone with a dyslexic child knows that if they don't use a skill often, they lose the ability to retain the formula.I thought the book would be a great skill review tool for her since it covers so much in one book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good shape
The book arrived as stated. Price was below what I thought I would have to pay!

5-0 out of 5 stars great book for a condensed introductory couse
If you want to teach a second grader some basic math in half a year, this is a right book. We don't need three to five years to teach basic math. So skip the lengthy (and maybe even distracting) textbooks. Use this concise book as a guideline. This is achievable for bright kids. Maybe this is an unconventioal use of the book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Homeschool math
I am using this as a homeschool pre-algebra book. The whole series (pre-algebra books 1 and 2 and pre-geometry books 1 and 2). The lessons are short and clear with multiple methods presented. There are tons of practice problems. For word problems supplement with something else because all of these problems are just numbers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unhappy
I was not happy because when I purchased the item the condition was listed as new/never used.Upon recieving the item I opened it up to find that it had answers written on the pages.I homeschool and thought this workbook would be a good extra tool for my son.But now I have to go through every day and erase the answers, but he can still see most of them. This is the first time I have ever been unhappy with an Amazon purchase.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the book I was looking for
I bought this book trying to help my kid with pre-algebra and was quite disappointed. This book is not very well organized, there is no clear boundary between different sections, it's hard to separate concepts from excercises.

1-0 out of 5 stars Used Book
This book was listed as "In good condition", however the book that we received was in fair/maybe poor condition. The book had many written marks in both pen and ink!!!The other items that we purchased were satisfactory. We just feel that the condition listed was misleading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Glencoe Pre-Algebra Practice Book
This book is what it is, a good practice book for pre-algebra concepts. The answers can be found in the Teacher Wrap-Around Edition by Glencoe, ISBN #0-02-833241-5. The practice book page, with answers, is superimposed in the appropriate section of the teacher edition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Its a very good workbook, one problem for me, I was seeking solutions to the problems and there are none, so if you want a good test with no answers, you got it. If you are seeking solutions to problems they are not easy to find. I found a company called "Saxon" that does have the answers and they are a very popular home study company.

So good luch with your math and don't forget to show appreciation, respect and love to each other, because this is what you and I both crave, and together one math problem and one person at a time, we can create a better more fun world for us all.
