Every writer and self publisher should own this
Perfect Pages is the source to go to for straight to the point information about formatting. I have been struggling formatting books using Word 2007. I bought this book and dusted off my older computer that had Word 97-2003 on it. What an amazing difference! I don't have to struggle with margins changing on their own and I am able to format a manuscript that can be submitted to the printer without having reformatted. Great job Aaron!

Great introduction to publishing your own book
I'm no novelist, but I needed to produce a number of training manuals for my job and I wanted to a bit better than the usual stapled together sheets of paper or cheap-looking wire bound manual. At the same time, I didn't want to spend an absolute fortune on new software and the like. A friend of mine recommended 'Perfect Pages' and I'm really glad I bought it.

Aaron is a gifted writer: the book is enjoyable and easy to read as well as hugely informative. By reading his book, I learned everything I needed to know about getting my books into low volume production. I now present training courses with my own properly bound and printed books, and I can tell clients that I have books that are available to buy from Amazon "and all good bookshops".

This book is definitely worth the money. With comparatively little effort I now have a new income stream from book sales (only a few hundred dollars a month, but thats better than nothing) and I've got a much more professional image for my business. Brilliant!

Down in the weeds
This book is nowhere near the quality of Shepard's other two books on publishing.The problem is that it is too down in the weeds - how to choose which dash to use, or how to choose between proportional or monospace text - without providing the big picture, or guiding a first-time book designer through the process.(And if you're not doing it for the first time, you would not be reading this book.)

It reads almost like a reference - a bunch of disjointed "how to's."And as others have pointed out, the physical book itself is surprisingly amateurish in appearance.

There must be better guides out there.(I just found one:the freely available "Typesetting in Microsoft Word," by Jack M. Lyon.)

Thinking to Publish? This Book Can Make It Happen!
If you are at any stage in the preparation of a book manuscript, using Microsoft Word, that you plan to self-publish, then Perfect Pages is the book for you. When you first leaf through your copy your reaction may be, "Why do I need this when I have my expensive Microsoft Word Manual?" The answer is that the hefty Word Manual tells you more than you want to know and leaves you adrift in a sea of too many choices. Shepard zeros in on those options and format considerations that are significant to a book manuscript, directs you on how to set them up, and, most important, explains why you should use them.

And Shephard does not give those topics a light brush. The book is deceptively easy to read, but there is a lot of meat here; material that Shephard probably had to learn the hard way. It is not a book for which you can say "that's good stuff; I must remember to do that" and put aside. You will probably find, as I did, that you have to sit with Perfect Pages in your lap as you type through your document to ensure that all of the rules for punctuation, font selection, letter and line spacing, special text, and layout have been incorporated.

If you're hesitant about taking the plunge into a do-it-yourself book, Perfect Pages, along with Shephard's Aiming at Amazon and Pod for Profit, will give you the knowledge and courage to proceed.

Shephard follows his own advice as you will see when you examine your copy of Perfect Pages. Many publishers using professional editors and book designers point out, with good reason, that many books laid out in Word and self-edited come out looking amateurish. That is because the authors/publishers didn't adhere to Perfect Pages.

Good book on how to get perfect pages in your own production of a book!
Perfect Pages by Aaron Shepard is 159 pages long and is all about preparing a book for self publishing, Print on Demand (POD).

I found the first ten pages or so quite heavy going and wondered if I had made a mistake in purchasing this book, but then it all open out well. There was much new information for my own bank of knowledge. Whilst the book is very professional, I felt that it often had too much detail, which over complicated how to layout a book, when there is simpler ways for a first timer who may think that headers and footers etc. are compulsory for a book, when it is not. However, to have the option and how to go about it is good. : )

The book covers both Word and Mac, which I found confusing, which often meant a re-read of a paragraph or sentence, though helpful if you have one or the other. I also came across some good publishing words like: rivers, floaters and widows and orphans and now know what they mean!

The book is laid out really well - hope so, when it all about this subject! And very easy on the eye, with examples of right and wrong sizes, punctuation, print symbols etc. which is most helpful as was the recommended book for certain areas of book layout and production and the how to make an Index in word.

Very helpful
I found this book very helpful as I set out to create my own book "North Pole Marketing". I have highlighted sections, used stick notes on pages and gone back to it many times. The book itself is a great example of how to do what the author recommends.

Losing the Trees for the Forest
This book is a good base to look at if you wish to self publish a book. All the basics that are necessary are covered in a comprehenisve way. But to purchase his book alone will not be sufficient. By the author's own admission he states "this book will be out of date by the time it reaches the printer." (page 11)

There seems to a massive increase in the amount of authors self-publishing. The technology today makes it an affordable venture. What is not covered in the book is the excessive amount of work that will be needed to get your work noticed. After your book is available, that is when the serious work really starts!

That set aside, the book will cover all of the options available, and it goes down to the basics of book design, font selection, cover layout and even the types of punctuations to use.

The bottom line is that you will have to write an exceptional book if you want to have a slim chance of success, there is simply no short cut for that. Also, your chances will be better if you are a non-fiction writer.

Awesome book for writers
This is a great book for writers and self-publishers who want to learn how to publish their books on Amazon. It's very straight-forward, and the author's tips are really useful. I also got the author's other book, "POD for Profit" and I will write a review once I read that one.

Very useful, practical information. *note-- this book concentrates on selling through LightningSource.

Don't judge this book by its cover.
I resisted reading this book for a long time due to its funky cover. He's since improved it, though I still wish he'd use a different image. I disagree with his advice to do the special Amazon cover approach to be designed for easy readability. Sure it stands out, but it looks a bit odd--which may be fine for certain books but not for one about publishing. That said, Aaron does an excellent job of walking you through the self-publishing process in the era of Amazon.

I was not impressed
The truth is - there are better books out there on this topic. This book did not add value to my reasearch of POD. You are not missing anything if you do not read it.

Terrific Book!
I was so excited about this book that I stayed up most of the night reading it, the day I got it.

Someone commented that in her opinion the cover is a "blemish for POD" on the grounds that it fails to "represent best practices".

I strongly disagree. The ultra simple cover has several benefits:

1. For millions of people who imagine that getting a book on Amazon is an insurmountable challenge, seeing an utterly simple cover on Amazon makes them think, "heck, even I could create something like that!" Such people do NOT need more examples of highly polished, finely crafted professional covers on Amazon. They need to see something that seems to say, "yes, even YOU can get your book onto Amazon."

2. Secondly, I like that it puts the emphasis 100% on the usefulness of the information contained in the book. Many artistic covers lure you into thinking of the book as an attractive piece of art sitting on your bookshelf. This book has no such artistic aspirations, and for me this book has become something more than a book. It has become the useful information I now have in MY own mind as a result of reading it. Which will do more good? A book that exists mainly as useful information in your mind, or one that exists mainly as nicely packaged information on your bookshelf?

3. Lastly, I think the fact that Aaron Shepard's books sell well DESPITE these kooky covers, actually underscores the high value people are placing on the content, and that serves as an implicit testimonial for the one attribute people are MOST concerned about: the usefulness of the information.

Oh, and I like the guy's sense of humor.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book that after reading it I immediately ordered two of his others (Aiming at Amazon and Perfect Pages).

I hope that helps somebody!

P.S. Editing my review to add this: One thing that comes across in his book and his website is it's clear that he has a strong sense of ethics. Depending on your own ethics that might not be important to you, or it could be the greatest thing of all.

Bringing Ease and Clarity to a Potentially Daunting Task
I have just sent off my first book files to Lightning Source. Following Aaron's clear, step-by-step directions in POD For Profit has saved me time, energy and numerous gray hairs! Though deciding to go the route of both writing and publishing books obviously entails more work than simply authoring a book, and work that requires a decidedly different skill set, POD For Profit helped me through the decision-making process as to whether or not POD was for me (because it is definitely not for everyone). Then once I'd decided to "go for it", his book walked me through the myriad tasks that would be required to get my book published via this route. Actually, to be more truthful, the word "book" should be "books". I wore out Aaron's Perfect Pages while desktop publishing my manuscript and am well on the way to wearing out his Aiming at Amazon in my plans to improve ranking of my book there.

Without Aaron's POD For Profit, I would still be scrambling around, checking out various POD options, Googling like crazy to find out who I need to contact and when, and taking way too much time from my primary business of writing. Don't get me wrong; I actually really enjoyed working through the publishing process and wearing that hat for the first time ever. But I do have a couple of other books waiting in the wings. Now, thanks to POD For Profit, I can keep the publishing aspect of my business simple and uncomplicated. And that leaves me more time for what I primarily love to do--write.

Many others have already written four and five star reviews for Shepard's newest book "POD for Profit," but I could not resist.

All that I can say is that everything Shepard says is true. He and Morris Rosenthal are the trailblazers and gurus of using POD for self-publishing. If this is something you are interested in getting involved with, all of Shepard's and Rosenthal's books on the subject are required reading. Rosenthal's "Print On Demand Book Publishing" taught me the business model. Shepard's "Perfect Pages" taught me how to format my work. "POD for Profit," however, is the most detailed of them all, and shows you step-by-step how to get the book distributed as a self publisher.

If you think that this will be easy to do and won't require much effort, you're wrong, and you're better off paying another company to handle the technicalities for you. But, if you're willing to put in the work, Rosenthal and Shepard show you how to navigate the business of self publishing for the first time.

I feel a great debt to Shepard and Rosenthal for sharing their hard earned knowledge with the world. Aside from buying their books, this is a small way of saying "thanks!"

Readers on Stage
I have been assigned at my school to teach Readers Theater as an enrichment class.I teach 6th grade Social Studies at Gilmer Jr High in Gilmer, Texas.Aaron Shepard's web site has been extremely helpful in getting me started so I purchased his Readers on Stage to get some background.I have only started the class and have really enjoyed the book and all the helpful hints.The material is presented in such a way to make, what could have been a miserable six weeks, to be something I am looking forward to sharing.

A fantastic, motivating way to get kids to read and perform!
As an elementary school teacher and reading specialist, I've been thrilled by how much my students have enjoyed the chance to read and perform reader's theater. I would recommend Aaron Shepard's books to anyone interested in creative ways to teach literacy skills. The stories are fun, there are plenty of parts so that you can involve lots of kids, and they're also good for discussing story elements--especially character and plot. Reader's Theater
I wanted plays that were interesting and could be used with 5th graders. Some of the plays were bland and of no interest.

Theatre Teachers:This Is What You Need
This book is formatted so easily, it took me MUCH less time than I thought it would to prepare a unit on reader's theatre for my class.I used it for my high school theatre class so they wouldn't have to concentrate on large vocabularies, but rather to deliver the story in a simple, easy way.It was a HUGE success of a project and this book made it possible.It tells you how long each story is, what cast you'll need, and what reading level it is!!Yay!!!
The stories themselves are entertaining (even for high school!!!), compelling, and really fun to work with.I am SO grateful I ordered this!

I've never reviewed any of his other books.

So why this one?

King o' the Cats is a very special book. It's a slightly spooky story with twists and surprises in both the plot and the characters. It dramatizes truth and imagination, creativity and conformity.

But mostly, it's a delight. A special book, a special gift--for children, grownups, cat lovers, and anyone at all who enjoys a good story.

King of Cats Rules!!!
Aunt Mary read _King o' the Cats_ to niece Robin, age 8, who really loves cats.She liked it all, especially the coronation scene.Robin is involved in Renaissance Faire activities and is attuned to the rituals of royalty.Aunt Mary liked the irony of Father Allen gaining a reputation for telling tall tales.Also, the illustrations were lovely, dark and appropriately spooky.

I read "The King O' the Cats" to a group of children ranging in age from kindergarten through 5th grade. After hearing the story, all the children thought this was a good book to read to kids, but that it might be too scary for the younger ones.They all like cat stories and liked how the cats helped prove Peter's "stories" to be true.They thought it had to be something important to get the cats to talk to people, though.
The illustrations lead to discussions on how the pictures were used to bring out the most important parts of the story, such as how the King of the cats stood out from the crowd as he was being crowned and thought it was interesting that the priest looked angry but spoke kindly to Peter.
There was the one child who prefered books with non-talking cats, though.

Our class really liked the book King O' the Cats.Kelly enjoyed the crowning of the cats, and all the cats going meow, meow.Mary enjoyed the details, which made her want to read more and more.Cheyenne liked how in the beginning Peter was making up stories, and at the end, the priest does the same things.Marissa feels that the book was "fantastic and funny."She especially liked when Tom jumped up and shouted "Then I'm the king o' the cats!"Diana enjoyed reading about Peter's shortcut.Shannon liked it when the cat hit his head!Alex B. liked the cats on the foxes chasing the dog.Brittany's favorite part was the cats in the church. Storytelling at its best
The story follows the Nigerian oral tradition and tells the tale of boasting and pride. Growing up in the American culture, we hear explanations of why we have thunder and lightening. Folk tales often say it is the angels bowling, but in Nigeria the story is about Master Man. A delightful look at a different culture's explanation of daily events.

I read this book to fourth graders and they loved it!They were excited about the what was happening to the main character.This is a great book to use while talking about exaggeration.There are several examples of exaggeration throughout the book and it's a fun read aloud.

a heart touching story
Being a beautiful daughter of a wealthy mandarin, My Nuong had always beenstaying in her great house with the servants and surrounded herself withrichness. But, she was very unhappy for she often felt lonely and had nofriend to share her feeling with. One day, she heard a lovely piece ofmusic which come from a bamboo flute of a fisherman name Truong Chi fromthe nearby sea. The music was so mesmerizing that it has capture her heartimmidiately. She never felt anything like this and she has began thinkingof it as "true love". Although she had never know of thefisherman's face, she has made a promise of giving him her hand inmarriage. For some reason, the fisherman did not come to the sea to playthe music anymore and this affect My Nuong deeply. She is very upseting andstart to misses the music which make her now very ill. The story of the legendary Russian hero Sadko comes from a byliny, an epic ballad, composed by a minstrel during medieval times, although today it is better known as an opera by Rimsky-Korsakova.The story is set in the city of Novgorod, which was on the banks of the River Volkhov on a major trade rout that made it the greatest commercial center of medieval Russia."The Sea King's Daughter: A Russian Legend," reflects the Russian legend that every river has its own nymph, who is the daughter of the great Sea King into whose water all rivers flow.At the start of this story Sadko is but a simple musician who lives in river port city of Novgorod the Great who spends each day attending the feasts of the city's rich merchants where he plays his 12-string gusli as the guests dance.But while many a fair maiden catches his eye, they all belong to rich families that would never accept a poor musician.

However, one night Sadko's music reaches the ears of the Sea King himself, who had come to the River Volkhov to visit his daughter, Volkhova.The Sea King insists that Sadko must come and play his wonderful music in the great hall of the huge palace beneath the sea.Even if the title of this legend was not "The Sea King's Daughter" you would already have an idea of where this story, retold by Aaron Shepard, is going.However, there is a very interesting twist to the tale and one which provides a nice insight in the Russian character.This is not a predictable story and young readers will be struck by how different it is from the other fairy tales on which they have grown up.

Regardless of what you think of the story, the illustrations by Gennady Spirin are worth picking up this oversized storybook.The front piece claims that these are watercolors, which I find hard to believe, but I am in no position to question the assertion.These are finely detailed illustrations that remind you of some of the most exquisite Renaissance paintings that you have seen, although these are clearly part of the folk art tradition as well (you do not see lobsters wearing armor on their legs in high art).The two-page spreads of the feast in Novgorod and the court of the Sea King are marvelously detailed.My favorite is the painting of the Sea King first appearing to Sadko.The cover painting of the title character is rather subdued in comparison and does not prepare you for the wondrous art you will find inside this book.. ... I really enjoyed this book. I really, really liked this book. It is always interesting to read stories that kids from another part of the world grew up hearing about. Every culture has their own brand of folklore that has been passed down through the generations.

This one is so different from any I have ever read. It is about "A Superhero Tale of Africa". The main character is Mwindo. As he lays in his mothers stomach waiting to be born; he decides he does not want to come out as other babies do. So he climbs out of his mothers navel. He jumped down ran around the room. In his hand was a conga flyswatter, with a handle of wood and a swatter of buffalo tail.

He Sings:
I am Mwindo,
the one born walking,
the one born talking.

My father She-Mwindo does not want me.
My father the chief wants to kill me.
But what can he do against me?

There is so much I would like to say about this book. But I do not want to spoil it for anyone. I can say in the end you will find something that all children around the world want and need. This book will not disappoint you. It is a must read.

Plato's Atlantis
This is a very small book, but then it contains all that Plato managed to tell us about the mysterious island nation of Atlantis.Very nice to have it all compact in one source.I wanted more, but then so have generations of people.A valuable resource.

Atlantis Primer
In my quest to obtain and read on the story of Atlantis, I learned that only Plato ever actually wrote about it. That being the case, I went in search of the writings that would allow me to see the original story, and not the convoluted versions handled by the Atlanian Conspiritors. That said, I have learned that it was the Timaeus and Critias which it was described.

I am glad I did get this book, I also obtained the Penguin Classics Timaeus and Critias, because I learned a lot. For example: The orininal tale of Atlantis was not about Atlantis only. It was really a tale of Athena and the war Athens had to fight against the Atlanean invaders.

Further, it increased my belief that such places did exist and that Atlantis is probably under the Atlantic ocean due to the wide spread influence Atlantis had, and the further reference to how Athens freed all the other nations, including Lybia and Egypt, from the domination of the Atlanteans.

If you want to simply read about the Athens-Atlantis war and cultures, then this is the book for you. If you want more on the Myth part of the tale, then go for the Penguin Classic, Timaeus and Critias (Warning, Timaeus and Critias removes from the historic reference of Ancient Greece as a polytheistic society and puts it into a duplex theology of a Single God, who made the other

I found this book very interesting and enlightening.
I recommend an objective mind to review this book and enjoy it.

From a Theatrical point of view
I enjoyed the dialogues immensely, however, one who is looking for a more in depth look into Plato's philosopies on this "Utopic Society, Atlantis", this is not the book.From a theatrical perspective it is great fun and the imagination takes over.

The Atlantis Dialogue: A Handy Primer
The first best thing to do when seriously curious about a legend like Atlantis is to become familiar with the source materials from which it sprang, in order to expose later embellishments. Enhancements added over time commonly render otherwise believable original accounts into fanciful yarns, believable only as myths. (Sorting out the embellishments from legitimate research findings is another task.) This book presents that source account; the whole and nothing but. It is much like an archaeological find; a genuine relic dug up.A bit pricey for its size; its main sellig point is convenience: Quick, easy, portable reference, without the bulk of the full dialogues; and its slim enough to fit into a notebook. The editor seems to hint of bias in the introduction; but, the text itself is plain and free of italics, paraphrasing, and other editors' devices, and is not a new translation. To me, this oldest version reads like a new one. I found no mention of lasers, energy vortices, or power crystals. I did find an eerily familiar description of a civilization whose construction and archetectural achievements and innovations were no more astounding, and certainly no less, than those of the Egyptians, Chinese, Romans, Maya, or Inca, most of which remain equally mystifying. I was far more intrigued by the plausibility of this story than by the modern myth it has become. Atlantis must remain a myth until someone finds it. On the other hand; the city Ilios of Troy was also another myth invented by another ancient author for another work of fiction, until it was discovered in 1871 by Heinrich Schliemann, using Homer's Iliad as his guide. average story
After all the rave reviews I read about this book, it was a little disappointing in its content. I was pleased to find it for a good price after seeing some going for $50-60. Book was in pretty good condition except for a musty smell and two pages containing someone's dried boogers. I returned it and the seller was very gracious about it. I don't think it is a must-have Christmas book.

Where is this book for a decent price?
I've been looking for this book to use in my first grade classroom as part of our "December Holidays Around the World" unit but I'm NOT paying upwards of $[...] for it! It's even pricey on Ebay. Hear me oh REPRINT GODS....time to roll this one out again for another run!!!

The Baker's Dozen, a Saint Nicholas Tale
This is a delightful story to read to your children during Advent, particularly around the Feast of St. Nicholas on December 6.


I think this book is a nice change of pace for children who are already aware of who St. Nicholas is and his history as a bishop.This story is set in Albany, New York, probably in the 18th or 19th century.We just know that it was before modern times and certainly before the days of the super grocery stores!

The story centers on the baker, Van Amsterdam, a good baker and honest businessman who gives his customers exactly what they pay for, "not more and not less."Although that is very legal and very fair, it's not exactly fun is it?In the long run it also proves to be bad for business when a mysterious old woman enters the bakery and asks for 13 St. Nicholas Cookies and insists that 13 makes a dozen.When Van Amsterdam reiterates his motto and only gives her 12 cookies the old lady curses him as she leaves with the words, "Fall again, mount again, learn how to count again!"

After that Van Amsterdam's business falls off and his baking suffers.A dream of the good saint and his genorosity turn Van Amsterdam's heart around and changes his business practices.In the end he learns that a few freebies are actually good for business, and for his own heart!

The illustrations are colorful and interesting.My kids loved to look at the detail in them.This is another nice book to read during the Advent season!

Teaches The Real Meaning of Christmas
This is a gorgeously illustrated book that teaches a wonderful lesson about the spirit of generosity.Who can condemn the baker who is perfectly fair?St. Nicholas, cloaked as an old woman -- who shows him that by giving more of his own possessions, he will in turn receive greater rewards.This is a great way to teach young children about the the joy of giving, and about the life of St. Nicholas. The "truth" about Santa is that there WAS a saint who gave to the poor, filled stockings and dropped gold coins down chimneys at night -- this book could launch older kids on a study of the real saint's life and how Santa traditions arose.My six year old boys aren't ready for that part yet, but they love the story of the baker, and this year we're going to try to bake gingerbread cookies to resemble the baker's St. Nicholas cookies on St. Nicholas Day.(Some clever marketer ought to package this book with a cookie cutter and recipe, because the cookies are beautiful!)

For Adults and Students!
This is a great story! Some adults that I shared the story with enjoyed the book a great deal and I look forward to using it in my classrooms!

Pleasant read and fun for the kids
This book is colorfully illustrated with lots of funny looking characters and is set in an enchanting city. The book is a pleasant read for kids at bedtime and I recommend it.

It was a nice touch to see the page titled "how to say the names" with the phonetic equivalents written next to them - as we know many names can be mispronounced. However, it was disappointing to see that they made a typo on the phonetic equivalent word for IRAN! It says eer-ON instead of ee-RON.I hope they correct this mistake if there is a reprint.

Great folk story from an ancient land
Excellent English translation of the folk story. I have heard a couple of other versions of this story when I was growing up in Iran. It was a (very)pleasant surprise to see that the story has been translated. Theillustrations are remarkable. You can see the old Persian architecture, thecostumes, the robes and turbans, yet the characters are cartoonish andextremely funny. I hope to see more Persian folk stories by the author andillustrator.

Cute story
My bad for not reading the description more carefully to realize this story is meant for kids.It is a cute, light story and definately something that could help hook kids on reading.The premise is a bit oversimplified for adults, but we aren't really the target market.Had a couple of formatting issues with my Kindle version.

My grandson's review
The cover of this book is awesome. I had some trouble pronoucing the names of the people in this book even though the book showed us how to do it. I have to tell you this book is super cool. I liked it when Rhiannon was riding her horse and King Pwyll saw her and rode to meet her. Her horse just walked along slowly. No matter how fast Pwyll pushed his horse to ride faster he could not catch her. She was riding slow but kept getting further ahead of him.

I love the whole medieval period and the spells that were cast in this story. I am going to give this book a five star rating. I like reading story's from other countries. We do not have story's like this here in the U.S.A.

I just turned eleven today. I think this book would be good for kids eleven and up. I am on honor roll all the time so this story was not really hard for me to read and understand. It might be harder for younger kids to understand.

Thank you for writing this book and showing kids a different kind of story and time frame from another country.

CHEEP KIDS BOOK
I ordered this by mistake. It was not worth the ten bucks i paid for it. But it was my bad. I wouldn't pay over three dollars(new).

Start here to understand China...
The universally known stories in a culture have a profound and lasting influence in the mindset of growing children they are told to, and mark the continuity of tradition when repeated to their own children. This is true in every culture and this story is the ultimate in Chinese children stories. Not only does this story contain numerous character studies, conflicts and scenes that have entered into linguistic/world view idiom, but hidden inside this story are cryptic allusions to deep Buddhist and Taoist training. The full version of this story has 100 books and some authors have considered this story on par with such classics as the Tao-Te-Ching.

This version is a good introduction to this story, the sort to give you a taste or to read to a child. I have a dozen versions of this story and while this is not my choice as the best short-popular version, it is close. Further, this author has released this text for the Kindle for 1 penny! This is the world's greatest bargain. Absolutely everyone should load this on their reader...

As an aside...

I hope that many like myself will purchase his dead tree version of the book and put it on their shelf, prove to publishers and Amazon that this is a good economic model. May many more authors release inexpensive e-book versions of texts as a promotion of their work. There is presently a vast quantity of high quality free audio books by authors trying to break in or grow their base, for traditionally published material. I regularly purchase texts that I have listened to or heard for free on the NPR Radio Reader program.

I personally have been less than enthused with the universal $10 price for kindle books, the overall reading experience and utility is not the equivalent of a paper book. Given that 99.9% of the infrastructure costs such a printing, ink, paper, transport and warehousing are nonexistent for e-books, $10 is exorbitant.I generally feel that if the paper back version of a book is available for $15 compared to a $10 Kindle e-book, I would unhesitatingly go with paper.

There is a lot of inexpensive e-book content "notably - Author 50-years-dead stuff" but much of the contemporary less than $5 content is barely spam. I hope that the Kindle consumer community will spot and recommend high quality inexpensive content; review and recommend it to others. Vote with your voice and and wallet (mouse-click) for this content to knock publishers of their high-horse...

Great Read For All
This is a story about a monkey who was born from a magic boulder, that was bathed in the energies of Earth and Heaven, quickened by the light of the Sun and Moon. He became known as the Monkey King when he wandered into the midst of other monkey's and found them a safe home in a cave behind a waterfall. The other monkey's made him their King, which is the highest honor they could bestow on him.

It was on the Monkey King's four hundred birthday that he sat complaining that he had reached the heights of greatness. "What is left to hope and strive for he asked?" The Monkey King was told that above them are Gods, who dwell in Heaven and Earth. Then there are Immortals, who have gained great powers and live forever. And finally there are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, who have conquered illusion and escaped rebirth.

That information was enough for the Monkey King to set off on his owncourse of action. To become not just a God or Immortal, but to become a Buddhas. He wanted it all. Nothing would stop him until he could attained what he wanted.

Even though the Monkey King studied hard he would always manage to get himself into trouble time and time again. At the end of this book we find the Monkey King pinned between stone walls. His head and arms are out, but the rest of his body was hopelessly trapped.

What kind of trouble did the Monkey King get into to find himself trapped?Was it his faith to be pinned between the stone walls forever? I can only say you must read this book for yourself to find the answers.

Monkey, is the most popular figure in all Chinese literature, loved for centuries by both young and old.Even in todays world Monkey is still cherished in the Chinese culture.

What a wonderful way to expose and broaden the minds of our young people and adults. To be transported to another place and time. To experience stories that have lasted for centuries.
