Product Description

Joining together for a good cause brings out the best in today's top mystery and suspense writers! For this marvelously entertaining anthology, these outstanding contributors rose to a unique literary challenge: each penned a tale that ingeniously features a thick fog, a thick book, and a thick steak.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Plot Thickens
Interesting anthology. All the short stories were interestig some moreso than others.I purchased the book because my favorite author Janet Evnovich wasamong those selected to parfticipate.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying just to be able to read a Mary Higgin Clark story
The Mary Higgins Clark story was really great, but there were about three other authors that had so much filthy language in their stories, that it caused this entire book to be not worth buying. I am surprised that Mary Higgins Clark would endorse and write a story in a book with authors who have the reputation of writing in this way. So, overall the only great story in this book is Mary Higgins Clark's, which does not justify this book being worth buying unless you are able to get it for less than $1.00 or at a library.

3-0 out of 5 stars ***
not as good as I thought it was gonna be. it still wasn't too bad. I love Mary Higgins Clark and her short story was great but I didn't like the other writers. They are nowhere as talented as her.

5-0 out of 5 stars My book
Book came in record time.I will update review as soon as I find time to read it.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bad, some great stories, some terrible
This book is a mixed bag, with some excellent stories, and some terrible ones.

I won't bother typing summaries of each story's plot as other reviewers have done that.

"How Far it Could Go" by Lawrence Block: Terrible

By far this is the worst story in the book. There is almost nothing to the story, if it can even be called a story. Lawrence Block should be ashamed of himself for submitting this, and the story should have been rejected by the publisher.

"Foolproof" by Edna Buchanan: Poor

A drop better than the first one, but pretty stupid at the end. Great build up, and then, plop, the story is just thrown away. Make the mummy a recent murder and you would have had a much more interesting story.

"The Man Next Door" by Mary Higgins Clark: Excellent

One of the best in the book. Her portrayal of the bad guy is amazingly realistic.

"Too Many Cooks" by Carol Higgins Clark: Good

Good, but pretty bland and with a massive plot hole: wouldn't the director try to finish the commercial quickly, and move on, instead of delaying things by many days?

"Revenge and Rebellion" by Nelson & Lauren DeMille: Weird

I didn't really understand this one, it's almost like the whole thing was an inside joke to other authors. None of the actions of the characters made any sense.

"The Last Peep" by Janet Evanovich: Excellent

The reason I got this book, and I was not disappointed.

"Going Under" by Linda Fairstein: Good

Good, but very straightforward, as soon as you find out what's going in, you know how it ends. But it's a short story, so I guess that's OK.

"Thick-Headed" by Walter Mosley: Very Good

Pretty hard to read. I nearly gave up at the paragraph containing: "Big Bill Baretti up in Frisco got a big load'a queer in." As hard as I tried to parse that paragraph, I could not figure out what was going on, and eventually decided to just continue. It's only at the very end that I figured out that "big load'a queer" meant "a lot of counterfeit money". And then the story made much more sense.

"Love's Cottage" by Nancy Pickard: Good

Not much mystery (or action), but good flavor, and unique amongst the rest for it's style.

"The Road Trip" by Ann Rule: Very Good

Suspenseful and well portrayed. The actions of the truck drivers didn't completely make sense, but an excellent twist.

"Take it Away" by Donald E. Westlake: Good

Sort of funny. Not a ton of plot, but it didn't need it.

Overall only some of the stories are worth reading. And it's really too bad the stories are in the alphabetical order by last name since the first two stories are so bad. Are there enough good stories in the book to make it worth getting? Hopefully my review will help you decide. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Still fun and flirty
Background: I spent about 2 months this summer reading the numbered Plum novels back to back. I had initially skipped the between-the-numbers novels after reading several Amazon reviews. After a month of no Plum novels at all, I decided the in-between books were better than nothing. So I started reading this anthology of the first three in-between books, fully expecting to be disappointed.

I actually wasn't disappointed at all. I already knew to expect less Morelli and Ranger, but I didn't expect the new character Diesel to be so likable. These stories have holiday themes and supernatural elements, which give them a slightly different feel than Plum fans might be used to, but it's all still fun and humorous and there's still just the right amount of flirting and sexual tension.

I think it's a good thingI waited until I finished the numbered novels to read the in-betweens, because I don't think the two series flow very well together. Reading this anthology, I felt like I was getting a completely different and fresher view of Stephanie's world that I never would have gotten had I stuck to books 1-16.

I kind of wish the 4th in-between novel Plum Spooky (A Between-the-Numbers Novel) was written soon enough to make this book. I think it's even better than the first three.

3-0 out of 5 stars Another book
I like Janet Evanovich's novels, but they seem to become somewhat redundant the more of her books you read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Between The Plumbs
Great read! Three separate stories about the escapades of Stephanie Plum and her buddies. Evanovich does a great job describing the many funny situations that Plum get into. I found myself laughing out loud at time while reading this book. They are not the greatest of mystery novels but they surly entertain you. I recommend all of Evanovich's books for pure entertainment and enjoyment. So often mystery novels are so serious with complex plots they are not humanized. Evanovich characters always remind me of myself or someone I know. She does a great job of bring her characters to life.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment!
I always look for Janet's books to come out in June and then again in the fall.June being the next in the numbered series and then in the fall for the in between novels.I never expected this author to pull a fast one and just sell a compilation of previous in between books.I was SO DISAPPOINTED!!!I felt ripped off!

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't understand Why
everyone is so disappointed and upset calling this book a scam, expecially fans of this series. If you are really a fan of this series and were eagerly waiting the next book you would know this was not a new release in the series, but a compilation of previously released titles.

You can tell just by looking at the cover this is not a new release but a compilation of her first "in between" novels. It had the names of the first 3 "in between" novels in very large print on the cover. And the title the the book is called "Between the Plums." And it clearly states on the books Amazon page that this isa very special edition containing not one, but three Between-the-Numbers books.I don't know how much clearer they can be.

By now fans of her series should know all her regular titles have the book number in the title and the "in between" novels have "Plum" in the title and they state they are an "in Between Novel". I agree with "Rob H" if you just took the time to read the descriptions you wouldn't be disappointed.

I never write reviews but I was very upset when I read all the reviews stating that the publisher was just trying to cheat people when the description of the book and what it contained were very clearly written. I also got very upset when I read a few reviews state that these were just old books with new characters written in to make a new book, when clearly this wasn't so either.Which makes it so sad that this book has such a low rating just because no one took the 10 seconds it would have taken to read the books description. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good audio book
Smitten wouldn't be at the top of my favorites list but it is a fun audiobook.I liked the story of the single Mom trying to make a living and a new life for herself and her children... and finding romance at the same time. The flasher storyline was interesting at first but the character sort of fizzled at the end. This is a nice audiobook that plays out quickly and has lots of action.

I think Janet Evanovich's books arereally great to read. This book will keep you laughting though most of it. I encourage anyone who likes funny entertainment to read this. The'll love you.

Product Description
When the delightful, daffy Dog Lady of station WZZZ offered to take on the temporary job of traffic reporter, Steve Crow tried to think of reasons to turn Daisy Adams down. Perhaps he knew that sharing the close quarters of a car with her for hours would give the handsome program director no room to resist her quirky charms. He'd always favored low-slung sports cars and high-heeled women, but that was before he fell for a free spirit who caught crooks by accident, loved old people and pets, and had just too many jobs!

Loving Daisy turned Steve's life upside down, especially once he adopted Bob, a couch potato masquerading as a huge dog. But was Daisy finally ready to play for keeps? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars audio book
I bought this to listen to as we traveled.I like this
author very well, and the CD worked very well.I am very
happy with it.I rate it AAAA++++ It came in good time and
good condition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rocky Road to Romance
Daisy Adams is a very busy lady, but she thinks it may be her lousy time management. When she gets up in the morning she delivers papers, then is a crossing guard to protect children on their way to school. She has a temporary job at WZZZ Radio Station doing traffic reports, after which she waitresses at Rogers Steakhouse part-time, and then she moonlights as a taxi cab driver! In her spare time, she wrote a doggie cookbook called Bones for Bowser and has been asked to write another. On top of all her other commitments, she is working on her doctorate in geriatric psychology, and has an internship at a nursing home. Her little brother Kevin is also staying with her while their parents are out of town.

Steve Crow is the owner of WZZZ, and although he hired Daisy to do Bowser spots on Mondays, he had really not noticed her until he hired her to do the traffic reports. Now that he has he wants her bad, but she has no time for anything or anyone. Daisy does need a dog to do taste tests on her doggie meals, so Steve does the only thing he can think of to be near her - he gets a dog named Bob. When Daisy unintentionally hits a drug dealer with her car while doing the traffic report, she is targeted for retribution. Steve has fallen for Daisy, and takes it upon himself to protect her.

This was a fun read. Steve and Daisy have chemistry, are good together, and Bob is just loveable. Who wouldn't be absolutely smitten with a dog that requires pop tarts as motivation to go running in the morning?

4-0 out of 5 stars Lighthearted Romance
Okay, so this is reading "light", but I have no problem with that. Many times I just want a lighthearted romance with no deep analysis or problems to weigh me down.If you just want a little escapism, a good story or a listen in the car, you will enjoy this audio book. I would say this is fun chick lit, so enjoy!Power Path to Love

Pete Streeter never figured on finding such an attractive partner in crime. Louisa is all he ever wanted in a woman, and more. But once he's taught her to enjoy living on the edge, will she finally feel safe in his love?

4-0 out of 5 stars A hoot
Typical of the Evanovich I've read, you take a simple boy meets girl scenario and throw in a bunch of eccentric characters and wacky situations. It was entertaining. But I would've preffered to have read about the "fall out" from the Great Pig Caper. But alas, you never find out how that part closed out. The narrator had a good voice for all the different parts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Evanovich strikes again!
Janet Evanovich is such a hoot of an author and even her earlier books, such as this one is, showed her talant off. They're always a joy to read and as my first time listening to one of her books, a hoot to listen to.Even with the romance, my husband enjoyed it while on our trip.

3-0 out of 5 stars good, not great
I would say the the book is OK, but I much prefer her "One for the money" series

3-0 out of 5 stars Naughty Neighbor
Louisa Brannigan lived a quiet orderly life until the morning her neighbor Pete Streeter stole her morning newspaper. Tired of him taking advantage of her whether it was parking in her parking place, hogging the community laundry room dryer, or the obnoxious calls in the wee hours of the morning, but the last straw was his theft of her paper. She knocked loudly on his door yelling at him in the process, and he chose to ignore her. Furious that he could totally disregard her, she grabbed her broom and started banging on the ceiling. When Pete went to confront Louisa, he found her door wide open and walked right in to settle her down. He was stunned by how attractive she was, as was she because she was expecting some neanderthal.

When Louisa and Pete found themselves being shot at that night, he quickly pulled her under his protection, but circumstances only got worse from there. He was attacked in his apartment in the middle of the night, and she was fired from her job as press secretary to Senator Noland Bishop just because she knew Pete. Feeling that something was smelly in Washington, he convinced Louisa to help him investigate. Pete thought it would be interesting to base his next screenplay on because he could just feel a scandal waiting to be uncovered. He just hoped he could keep Louisa safe, and in the process convince her that they were perfect for each other.

I have read most of her earlier works, and this is the best of them. Louisa is a very funny character, and was perfectly paired with Pete. They are charming together.

2-0 out of 5 stars Such a dreadful reader
This book is read by a voice that is shrill and penetrating.I persevered through the first CD - why is this reader so bad, what is the plot anyway, why am I wasting my time like this?Once the second CD started playing, and the reader blathered on about "an attack of conscious," I woke up and ejected the CD.

This is one of the worst audio CD books I've ever tried to listen to.I'll be quite happy to return it to the library on Monday.

I put a wonderful Debbie Macomber book into the slot instead, and continued driving, listening to a mellow book, well read, with a good plot. ... Read more

I am amazed at the value I received and the swiftness of its arrival. They were advertised as used in good condition; I have arrived home with new purchases from a dept. store that were in worse shape than these "used" books. I immediately plunged in to read and didn't come up for air for 2 weeks! 'Brenda' was the source that sent all 14 books. I swear, some didn't appear to have even been opened, they were in such good shape! I will not hesitate to order more used books in the future. It goes without saying that J. Evanovitch is an excellent writer who doesn't leave you feeling like a slut for enjoying a good, hilarious, and just slighty naughty tale about our favorite bounty hunter.

5-0 out of 5 stars good quality
old school cassette thus not as portable as audible style ones but the plus side is you can sell it or give it away when you're done like a book. Some day some rich guy's gonna sue for the right to give away or sell our digital music or audible licenses so they can be resold or traded like hardcopy styles like this can. Until that happens I'll continue to recommend cassette like this over digital versions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Evanovich Does It Again -- And Does It Well
Janot Evanovich, author of the Stephanie Plum mystery series, has a hilarious writing style that both pulls readers into her stories and makes them laugh out loud. The audio versions of these stories are no different and in fact are possibly more amusing thanks to the vocal talents of Debi Mazar. Her Jersey-girl accent makes it feel like Stephanie is in the room with you and telling you about her mishaps, of which there are many.If there is ever a movie starring this plucky and clutzy bounty hunter, I would encourage casting agents to seriously consider Mazar. Her attitude and way of speaking fit the stories to perfection. These audio versions are abridged, which saves time but cuts out parts of each book. For anyone who has yet to read the books, I would encourage you to do so before listening to this format.

3-0 out of 5 stars How can you cut Evanovich's words?
This series is toooooo good to cut a single word. I adore the analogies, characters, and descriptions in these books - I was sorely dissapointed to find these audio versions abridged.
DO THEM OVER UNABRIDGED and I will purchase every single audio and enjoy what I've already read and fell in love with.

Product Description
#1 best selling author takes you on the ride of your life in the 7th Stephanie Plum adventure. Grandma Mazur's gambling partner, Eddie Dachooch, was found dead from a shotgun blast. But at the viewing, she doesn't recognize the man in the casket. She drags Stephanie along to find the missing body. But Stephanie's mind is on two other matters: vice cop Joe Morelli, and fellow bounty hunter Ranger is proposing a single perfect night. This novel drops Stephanie into a world of murders, kidnappings, and extortions.

... Product Description

Buckle your seat belts. Number-one New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich is moving into the fast lane with Metro Girl, a thrilling, high-octane misadventure with high stakes, hot nights, cold-blooded murder, sunken treasure, a woman with a chassis built for speed, and one very good, very sexy NASCAR driver who's along for the ride.

"Wild" Bill Barnaby's dropped off the face of the earth and big sister Alex heads for Miami, Bill's last known sighting, on a harrowing hunt to save her brother...and maybe the world. Alex blasts through the bars of South Beach and points her search south to Key West and Cuba, laying waste to Miami hit men, dodging Palmetto bugs big enough to eat her alive, and putting the pedal to the metal with NASCAR driver Sam Hooker. Engaged in a deadly race, Wild Bill's "borrowed" Hooker's sixty-five-foot Hatteras and sailed off into the sunset...just when Hooker has plans for the boat. Hooker figures he'll attach himself to Alex and maybe run into scumbag Bill. The race to the finish is hot and hard.

What a book. The excitment, the suspence, the violence (lol)Outstanding work by Janet.Love the Alex Banaby Series.Seriously, this is a must read for Evanovich fans.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining book, good audio.
This is an entertaining, funny romp of an adventure story, with likeable characters.Evanovich includes plenty of Miami settings and atmosphere, and the pastel colors and palm trees of south Florida are a perfect backdrop for the enjoyably improbable plot.

CJ Critt does a good job reading it.Her voice for Sam Hooker is particularly good, perfectly fitting Hooker's endearing redneck character. She uses inflection and tone to distinguish the characters from one another, rather than relying too heavily on pitch and using high falsettos for women and painfully fake baritones for men. Unlike many audiobooks, the female lead character doesn't come across as an annoying, helpless damsel. Alex Barnaby sounds as snarky as she reads on the page.

Plum Boxed Set 1 (1, 2, 3)]][Plum Boxed Set 2 (4, 5, 6)Plum Boxed Set 3 (7, 8, 9)Novel)]]

I LOVE reading about Stephanie Plum and her hilarious mysteries. She is a bounty hunter, of all things. She finds herself in the most bizarre situations. I can hardly wait to order the next set of books because they are so well written and FUNNY!There have been times when I have been reading along and have laughed right out loud. Did I say in the doctor's office, beauty shop, dentist's office, at home? Her books are also very intriguing as mysteries. Her 2 love interests add an additional element of intrigue to this series. The other characters in her books are very well done. Her family is quite a family, especially Grandma.I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries and loves to laugh. I hope she stays just ahead of me in writing. I can't wait to read the next book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonder author, wonderful books
Get the great series by Janet Evanovich! If you never lived in "Jersey", you will wonder. If you have, you will laugh!Characters are real, situations vary from insane to insanely weird (how about a car that ends up 12 inches thick?) but all the way through, you keep thinking, "Could I do that?Have I done that?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I loved these books! I'm a big fan of the Stephanie Plum series and have enjoyed these very much. My husband read them too, and we both laughed out loud while reading. They are very entertaining and move quickly-easy reads. I recommend them! ... Read more

Product Description

Janet Evanovich and her good friend Charlotte Hughes teamed up to write a series of novels with fast-paced action, dysfunctional, loveable characters, steamy sex, suspense and non-stop hilarity. The series kicked off with Full House featuring polo instructor Nicholas Kaharchek and divorced mother Billie Pearce.

With Full Tilt the series shifted to Beaumont, South Carolina and a new romance between Jamie Swift, a local newspaper reporter, and Holt, a mysterious millionaire. Their time together has gone Full Speed into all sorts of misadventures, but the experience has been a Full Blast.

So if you’re in for a listening experience filled with fun, loveable, characters, villains you love to hate and a cross-eyed way of looking at life and love—then The Full Box audio treasure is just right for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money. These books are so corny.
I expected something on the caliber of the Stepahie Plum series, but this series is a far cry. They are so corny and the characters are shallow and predictable. I bought the audio series and the reader is no Lori Petty or Debi Mazar (she spells her first name the same way I do):-)
