Editorial Review

Product Description
Three of Robert Creeley's collections—Memory Gardens, Windows and Echoes (first time in paper)—together in a convenient paperback edition. Just in Time: Poems 1984-1994 continues the consolidation of Robert Creeley's later work begun with So There: Poems 1976-1983 (1998). Just in Time combines Memory Gardens (1986), Windows (1990), and Echoes (1994) in a volume that further validates the Lifetime Achievement Award conferred on Creeley by the Before Columbus Foundation in 2000. The poet himself comments about his later work: "Much echoes in these poems from the the necessary 'voyage to oblivion' they prepare for, but they are fact of no simple despair. Each day stays specific, possible, each relation defining, whether of life or of death. As my longtime mentor, W.C. Williams, best put it, 'The descent beckons as the ascent beckoned...' One continues and learns despite." ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
This anthology presents material selected from the collection of Angel Hair magazine and books edited by Anne Waldman and Lewis Warsh between 1966 and 1978. Included are substantial sections of writing--in some cases entire books--from an impressive range of poets including Clark Coolidge, Alice Notley, Hannah Weiner, Robert Creeley, Bernadette Mayer, Kenward Elmslie, Tom Clark, Joanne Kyger, Bill Berkson, Ted Greenwald, Lorenzo Thomas, John Wieners, Joe Brainard, Ron Padgett, as well as Waldman and Warsh, among many others. From the nascent St. Mark's Poetry Project on the Lower East Side of Manhattan to Bolinas and Boulder, Angel Hair published an idiosyncratic cross-section of innovative writing in distinctive format, becoming one of the longest-lived and most influential publishers on the small press scene. The anthology of literary writings is supplemented with brief memoirs by more than twenty writers, and the book also includes an annotated checklist by Aaron Fischer and Steven Clay that comprises a citation and photograph of each of the approximately eighty books, magazines, broadsides and catalogues issued by the Press. ... For Creeley, age and travel have served to highlight the foreignness of everyday circumstances, so that the window-passages between "inside" and "out" have become increasingly necessary for survival. ... Read more

Product Description
Poetry. E-mail Correspondence. "The DAY BOOK OF A VIRTUAL POET" provides a unique entrance into the ideas and practices-into the life, finally-of one of our great writers"-Burt Kimmelman. This unique book is a record of e-mail letters from Robert Creeley to high school students participating in an online honors poetry course. It explores the educational possibilities of a medium that has become second nature to people across the generations. Creeley: "All the tendentious proposals as to 'why write,' in Pound's useful phrase, finally fade to the one point W.C. Williams made by saying, 'Why don't we tell them it's fun?' Not just the authority of endless revisions, not just the lists of publications or prizes won, not just the company of poets of public record - just fun. Fun. Fun." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Author's reflections
I don't think a book has so pleased me in years, just that it came so unintentionally to hand. I had been instrumental in getting City Honors School in Buffalo, NY online and then wanted to make some activecontribution to the school's online writing program. The "DayBook" collects the pieces I thus wrote and then sent to the commonlistserv, CHOPS Online. As weeks and then months went by, they accumulated-- and I kept writing them all summer, despite school was out, because itbecame such fun.More than anything else, it was a place to say a greatmany things as a poet, to make clear what I valued, to witness the passingof friends as James Dickey, Allen Ginsberg and Denise Levertov, to keep thefaith in my own way. Again, that it all becomes a book is a bonus I'd in noway anticipated. --Robert Creeley ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
When John Chamberlain began his career in the late 1950s, his starting point was Abstract Expressionist painting. As has since been remarked, his twisted, laquered, partially painted, metal sculptures eventually created a new, three-dimensional Abstract Expressionism. This collection of his two-dimensional works from different creative phases brings him back to that starting point and suggests other directions he might have taken--and quietly did take, in sketching--reinforcing both the pictoral character of his work and his unconventional way with materials. Papier Paradisio includes subtle improvised works on paper, small reliefs made in cardboard and metal, spray paintings and Formica. ... Read more
