    Extractions: Jules Gabriel Verne was born in 1828, in Nates, France. Jules' parents were of a sefaring tradition, one factor which influenced his writings. As a boy, Jules Verne ran off to be a cabin boy on a merchant ship, but he was cought and returned to his parents. In 1847 Jules was sent to study law in Paris. While there, however, his passion for theatre grew. Later in 1850, Jules Verne's first play was published. His father was outraged when he heard that Jules was not going to continue law, so he disconinued the money he ws giving him to pay for his expenses in paris. This forced Verne to make money by selling his stories. After spending many hours in Paris libraries studying geology, engeneering, and astronomy, Jules Verne published his first novel Five Weeks in a Balloon . Soon he started writing novels such as Journey to the Center of the Earth, From the Earth to the Moon, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Because of the popularity of these and other novels, Jules Verne became a very rich man. In 1876, he bought a large yacht and sailed around Europe. The last novel befor Jules Verne's death was The Invasion of the Sea . Jules Verne died in the city of Amines in 1905. Five Weeks in a Balloon

Its aim is to collect, process and distribute information of and about Jules Verne and his works, and of publications on this subject. In order to do this, the Society organizes meetings and activities for its members and for others. Twice a year, there is a meeting of the Society. The people present have the opportunity to trade books, old valuable antiquarian books as well as more modern ones, e.g. in other languages. In spring the general assembly takes place, in autumn there is a shorter discussion session. Then there is a talk, a film-show or something similar. The meeting ends with the distribution of the Verniaan. From the very first years of its existence, the Society has been busy making a bibliography of all Dutch editions of Jules Verne's works. This was no easy task; sometimes it is quite difficult to distinguish between different editions, years of publication, etc. Also, there are publications that only a few people know of. The bibliography was finished in 2000.

Und Budapest, genauer die damals noch separate Stadt Pest, ist der Ursprungsort dieses bedeutenden Verlages, wo er aus einer von Hartleben im Jahre 1804 übernommenen Buchhandlung hervorgegangen ist. Seit 1874 sind in diesem Verlag die »authorisierten« deutschsprachigen Ausgaben der Werke Vernes erschienen: Julius Vernes Schriften (1874-1889: 55 Bände)
