AL HANSEN: THE OUTLINE OF HIS LIFE
Al Hansen, The Fluxus Artist was born and raised in New York City.He served as a paratrooper in WWII, gaining notoriety for pushing a piano out a sixth story window in wartime Europe.Congruent to his approach to art, Al Hansen took a flamboyant woman for a wife after the War.Their daughter became a Warhol girl.Their grandson became a sophisticated Pop music star.In the postwar years, Hansen developed association with the artists John Cage, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol, Lou Reed and the actress Karen Black.With his friends, Hansen developed Fluxus Art, wherein the structure of reality can be penetrated and perception changed through a presentation and participation in chaos and impulse.In 1962 he began to create "Happenings" and in 1965 wrote: "A Primer of Happenings and Time/Space Art".

In 1977 Al Hansen co-founded the Punk Rock venue "The Masque" in Hollywood, California with Brendan Mullen.Minimalist punk bands entertained there as participants with the crowd in a frenzied atmosephere.Concurrently, Hansen managed the minimalist bands The Controllers and The Screamers and later, Penelope Houston.In the 1980s Hansen moved to Cologne, Germany where he continued his art in the Fluxus approach with The Ultimate Academy and wrote: "Introspective".There he passed away in 1995.The Controllers ... Great Book!!!
alot of info and facts also alot of art
if your a fan of Al or Beck you'll love this book

Al Hansen, circa 1965-69
Al Hansen was my advisor in college. Having said that, let me also add that his teaching continues to impact every day of my life in a most positive fashion. i had the good fortune of being a member of a small group of earnest students at Rutgers University in Newark who basically followed Al around for four years and never regretted it. perhaps, my most memorable experience was going with Al and a few other students to a party at Andy Warhol's factory for the Velvet Underground. i also collected hersey chocolate wrappers and empty camel cigarette packs for Al.

Far Better Than Sliced Bread
Do you know anything about Al Hansen? Before buying this book, I had no idea that he was such a renown member of the Fluxus/Happenings community. Al was colleages with such icons as Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, and John Lennon.In the book, it is mentioned that as children, Beck and his brotherChanning would be sent on missions to collect cigarette butts for theirdear grandpa's art. I used to wonder how Beck could be so inventive, butnow I see where his roots lie. Al is the reason we have our beloved Beck.Al is why we can today defy all sexx laws. And so even though he isdeceased, it is comforting to know that his legacy lives on, not only inhis art, but in his eccentric rock-star grandson.

Note: In case you weregoing to buy this for your Beck-crazed teeny-bopper, be aware that thisbook contains some nudity.

beck hansen and his zany grandpa use cigarette butts as artistic media.you wouldn't think that something so trashy could be so beautiful.it's miss-shapen, partially grotesque, and acutely obtuse.human shapescomposed of matches and cigarettes provide a uniquely symbolic look at whatmakes us-- bits and pieces of what others throw away.i personally drovefrom seattle to nyc to see the opening of the art exibit featured in thebook.although i wouldn't suggest everyone go to such extents, injestingthe book is nice start. ... Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Magne 'Mags' Furuholmen (born 1 November 1962, Oslo), is a Norwegian musican. He is best known as the guitarist/keyboardist in the band a-ha. Furuholmen has been the keyboardist with a-ha since their formation in 1982, though he also plays guitar. He has co-written many of the band's hits with Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, including "Stay On These Roads", "Manhattan Skyline", and the band's first and biggest hit "Take on Me". When a-ha went on hiatus in 1994, Furuholmen began working on other music projects. The band reconvened in 2000, though announced they would split in 2010. Furuholmen's projects outside of a-ha include Timbersound, formed in 1994 with Kjetil Bjerkestrand, and later, Swedish singer, Freddie Wadling. Their work has been used on film soundtracks such as "Hotel Oslo", which also featured vocals by Anneli Drecker. Furuholmen also recorded "Past Perfect Future Tense" in 2004, with appearances from Guy Berryman and Will Champion of Coldplay, and from Andy Dunlop of the Scottish band Travis. In 2008 Furuholmen collaborated with Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman and Mew vocalist Jonas Bjerre under the band name of Apparatjik for the theme to the BBC2 series, Amazon. The theme was made available (along with exclusive tracks from various other artists) on the Survival International charity album, Songs for Survival. Furuholmen is also an artist, working with glass, paint, etching and woodcuts. His art has been displayed at The Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Oslo, and he has also shown his work at The London Art Fair.
